hello

I seem to have a stuck gas piston extension rod on my sks. I took the gun apart when i first got it and cleaned it, i took it to the range about 3 times before i took aprart agian for cleaning everything else came apart just fine but the gas piston extension rod wont move at all, my latch is in the correct postion to take it out, but i would even depress down, has any one come across this, or has any ideas.

thanks

It won't move at all? Where in it's travel is it currently sitting?

I read in 7mm's thread that you got your piston out? Check the bore the piston slides into for a burr, check for burr on the piston and also roll the long thin end (where the spring goes over) along a flat surface - I've seen a bent piston before. Removing material from the big end of the piston is no biggie, they're interchangable and cheap. No Dremmel tools!

If you do decide to work on the piston, try a fine grade foam sanding block. The foam contours nicely to round surfaces and doesn't make flat spots. I agree with the poster on the other thread who suggested brushing out the piece the piston is stuck in.

  1. First off. Remover the rear sight.
  2. Then remove the gas tube and piston.
  3. Now exam wear the binding is ocuring.
  4. It could be a lack of gas preasure causing it to jam up or an old warn out op-rod spring that has broken and it even could be a small bur in the section of the op-rod contacts the bolt carrier.
Check it out and report back please and tell us what you could or couldn't find. Also when you have the rear sight removed you can use a flat head screw driver to wiggle out the piston.
