Found this on youtube, its a show on discovery, in the states, called Sons of Guns. Probaly never make it to Canada, but found this clip on an "Updated" thompson. Guess the local sheriff wanted to redeploy the Thompson to his swat team, but wanted it modernized Figure some milsurp guys would find it ineresting, and some black rifle guys my like as well. Enjoy

Surely, they can't be serious. There are far better choices than the Thompson in this day and age.
 
Thompsons, are the caddilac of submachine guns. They are heavy enough to control easily by just about anyone. I agree that there are better choices out there but few in 45acp that can be so easily swept accurately onto multiple targets.

For most urban or in building situations, it's just to big and clumsy but if you want something that has a lot of punch, at 50 yards and will stay on target or easily aquire other targets it has some advantages over today's offerings.
 
An AR-15 type carbine loaded with appropriate ammunition in either 5.56 or 6.8 SPC has superior terminal performance and effective range in a package that weighs less and is more ergonomic.

I have no doubt that a Thompson would be a fun toy, but they have been superseded as a serious weapon.
 
Wow, you guys are taking this thing way to seriously. Its not like they are planning to replace JTF2's, C8A1's with the damn things.

Just some redneck sheriffs idea on how to deal with local thugs and their gats:)

If you watch the full show it is revealed that the sheriff got the gun as a gift and wanted to use it to save money.
