Trying to find info on BRNO model 5 and most pages I can find are from UK and Australia. Are there /were there (m)any here in Canada? I do not remember seeing any of them here on EE.
There is one for sale locally and in a nice condition and while I'm trying to negotiate the price, they won't budge claiming this is the cat's meow when it comes to bolt action 22 rifles and I should just accept their price and grab it before it's gone.

I was going to start my BRNO collection, I have my eyes on the 581 semi-auto and now this model 5 would make for an excellent companion. Is $500 a reasonable price to pay for one?

mod 5

If its really nice that is probably on the higher end, but if it shoots anything like the one I have, it is a phenomenal gun. Probably the least picky rimfire I have ever seen. It is a lot to pay for one, but worth it IMO. What year is it? If you go to Rimfirecentral.com, there is a lot of info on the Brno's and you'll probably learn all you need to know there.

The year of manufacture should be stamped on the left side of the barrel and the receiver close together. An early model ('57-'60) in very good cond. would be worth $500 particularly if the stock has nice grain showing. I have an excellent low serial# '57 that a New Zealand collector has offered $1000 US if I was willing to sell. The model 5 is a combination of features from the model 1 and model 2. Excellent shooters.

$500 for a model 5 really is a great buy. The model 5 usually came with nicer wood than any of the other models. Very accurate shooters, and a better investment than a 581, unless the 581 has 3 or 4 extra mags. FS

There is no such thing as a " Bruno " FS

my bad

I realized it after I read it later, my bad for the spelling. My Mod 5 was bought as a diamond in the rough, stock was ugly, blueing not perfect, but after cleaning it up and shooting it, it will never leave my posession.

That is what you might find hiding under varnish and stain. Haven't gotten around to putting the correct buttplate on it, but I have one. My advice, buy it.

I paid $200 for mine a few years ago, and thought it was a deal. The stock could use a refinish, but still in good shape and not damaged. I also got a set of target sights for it that are probably worth the $200 alone. Even without the target sights, I still would have paid $200 for it. Only thing worng with mine, is that I am missing the original rear sight, which i need to find still.

In my mind, $500 is on the high side, but I wouldn't consider being ripped off, if you really wanted to buy it.

targets

I have a couple of targets I shot with mine, one round per bullseye, IMO much harder than shooting groups. On the right bottom corner of the Eley target is a rare target ammo flier, it wasn't me. This gun is capable of more than I am. I hate Blazers but this gun shoots them well, along with almost every other ammo I can think of. Haven't tried Wolf MT in it, but one of these days I will. Shot at 50 yards and they are 1" circles.

I have a model 5 that I bought in 78.Its the first gun that I ever bought, and the last that I would sell.It is extremely accurate, and built like a tank.I think that $500 for one is a very good deal.If for some(strange) reason you dont like it,it would be easily sold,as they are sought after.

There are two distinct BRNO #5's, the first ones are made in the late 50-s to 1969 or there abouts, even some 1972 marked ones have surfaced, but any of the later 1970's marked BRNO#5's are infact made by CZ, these are worth less have crappier stocks(ugly grain or just plain!) These reiceivers are mat finish, the sight dovetails are 3/8" and the scope rails are 3/8". The early BRNO #5's are perfection in design, polished and bluing is spectacular! The stocks are usually deluxe checkered and just plain better attention to detail, scoperail is 15mm.
Any of the BRNO/CZ #5's will command atleast $500 nomatter as they are one of the best sporters that were ever made! goodluck, Dale Z!

The Ejeptions were military trainers that wwre put together from parts on contract in EGUPT! If you want I am always looking for good quality actions to put away for a rainy gunbuilding day in the future? Dale Z

Go to rimfire central to learn everything you want to know about brno's and more then you want sometimes lol .Brno's are in CZ section.

My Brno #5 rifle was made in 1966. I obtained it in 1976 used and not abused beyond some stock bruises and scratches.
It gives me very satisfactory, consistent 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100 Yds.
And it does this with MANY different ammo brands and types.

If ever I needed an accurate .22, and a Brno #5 of equal quality to my #5 showed-up for $500.00. I would be all over it.

I own and cherish a Remington 541S that can be equally accurate.
My 541S however, is very picky about ammunition.

If I could have have only one .22 rifle, it would have to be the Brno #5

2 cents

I picked one up with BRNO rings and a 4X Banner for $150 a decade ago and I'll be keeping it.....................Harold

I agree if given the choice of one rimfire only the # 5 BRNO is the top of the list! IF any show up for $500 in good shape, grab it before the guy behind you gets ahold of it! Dale Z!

You got 6, how greed are you, hahaha, I wish I had that many, I have only 2 BRNO #5's and thought myself very fortunate! glad to hear I am not the only one with a rimfire addiction! cheers Dale Z!
