I've got a really only .22 rifle labeled:
.22cal ACE 1

I'm assuming its a cooey from the research I've done, but i'm not sure. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about them? Mine is a real shooter, thats for sure! Considering all its been through.

Yes it is a Cooey. There was the Ace, Ace1 Ace2 and Ace 3 and Ace Special. I believe they were produced after the Canuck series and date from about 1927 to throughout the 30's.
 
I inherited two Cooey Ace 1 rifles last year. They are straight shooters and a monkey could field strip it (squeeze trigger pull bolt back). One of mine has a round bolt knob, the other is an older model i think the bolt has a very small handle.

yep its got a round bolt...or did until it unscrewed somewhere out there :(
Is it just mine though, or are these things really good? this one has no finish, the barrel is no good and its taped/glued to the stock (got glued on sideways) and it still shoots better than my 10/22 :confused:

Nope, many of the Cooeys were pretty good shooters. As I've said before, I don't believe Cooey firearms get half the credit and acknowledgement they deserve. Probably because in part they were a Canadian company and most of them were sold within Canada. Had they been widely distributed throughout the USA, I think you would see different values on many of the models. And pretty much all Cooeys, up until Winchester took over, were all metal and walnut! ;)
 
I just fixed this one up for my grandson it will be his first rifle...it was given to me by my father to be my first rifle..:D

Chalkriver--it's great to see an old rifle being passed down for a youngin to learn on. And nothing like learning on an old "Canadian Cooey", eh. I actually just bought a model 75 from a member here for my daughter to learn on. I got a 75 to round out my collection and she really liked it so I figured I would get her her own for her to learn on. And at least it's walnut and metal.

Yep, you have the Ace that was made for Eaton's dept. store. Eatonia was the store brand name for them. I have a very small Eatonia boys rifle still with its original box. From what I can tell, this Eatonia I have would be the same as the Ace ll.
Later on, the Eatonia brand name was changed to Ranger.
 
What .22 WMR rifle do you have?

Hey guys~I have a healthy collection of .22lr rifles, a .17 HMR I really like, and am now toying with the idea of getting a .22 WMR to test the water. In fact, I'm so sure I will...I bought 2 boxes of V-Max 30 grain ammo! (talk about the cart ahead of the horse!) Anyhow, I'm not 100% sure I'll use it that often, or what effect it might have on the same, big SW Ontario groundhogs I shoot with my HMR...but I think I need to know. :)

Anyhow, I like the idea of having all 3 calibers in the safe, so I'm kind of anticipating it'll be a bit of a dust collector..and that's OK. With that in mind, I'm toying with the idea of getting an H&R single-shot. I've always been a little intrigued by these little econo-rifles, so I figure it might be the one I'll choose.

Any thoughts on these rifles in rimfire calibers? What .22 WMR rifle do you own, and what kind of accuracy do you get from it?

I can't comment on the H&R. I have a Savage fvss stainless .22 mag with the accu trigger. It will put the bullets through the same hole at 50 yards. I also just picked up a Mossberg .22 mag chuckster. Haven't had it out yet but I will soon. I don't expect it to be as accurate as the Savage but I like the old rifles. Some decisions that go into choosing a gun depends on the shooting you are going to do. If you plan on shooting a lot of gophers from a rest (sorta like target shooting), then a little heavier gun is preferred. If you are going to do a lot of walking with it, then lighter is better just because of the weight factor. I would do a little more research on the rifle you are thinking about. As I said, I don't have one but I wouldn't buy it just because it is an econo model (if that is a factor). I would save a little more and look for something else, unless the H&R is a great little gun. But remember it is a single shot. What are you going to do if a wounded gopher turns on you?

Ace 22 brings back sad and fond memories for me. I was given my Grandads 22 on the day he died to shut up my crying. November 4 1960.
Think the barrel was around 16 inchs. Like them chipmunks now.It was a good little shooter for a boy of 10.
