2011 Calgary Service Rifle Association match dates

Per the original post, our typical match is run on the Sunday (9:00am start) of the weekend of the event. For SR that is matches 1 thru 12 - conditions and time allowing. The Saturdays of those typical weekends will be reserved for walkbacks and orientation / practice starting at 12:00pm.

This is a picture of our range from the 500m point:

As you can see, the firing points follow the traverse of the land, and are not alligned. The range is also located on the side of a foothill with the contours between firing points following that slope.
This all adds up to making rundowns considerably more effort than on a typical KD military range, and if average K-Country snow is on the floor, almost impossible. We currently run the road until range improvements can be made.

The road is generally ploughed, but the firing points are not. So be prepared to run on ice/snow/brush. The firing points are sometimes shallow snow, sometimes nutz deep.

I think if it looks as good as that pic out there, we will be laughing.

But hey. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball right?

Pictures or you're full of s**t

And I'd be no good at keeping a secret weapon; a secret weapon, then would I? ;)

Have no fear, my new hardware will not be challenging yours or Rich's scores anytime soon.

Also I don't have a working still camera at the moment...

Went out today to sight in.

There's some decent snow accumulation out there. That and the snow plowing has entirely cut-off the 500M firing point. Looks like we're going to have to think about a reduced course of fire for Sunday. That is unless we park at 400 and hump our gear to the 500. Still the run-downs are looking very questionable.

Well, I think match 1 went well. We shot a reduced course of fire as 500m was "questionable", but did most of the rundowns. There was a bit of a dig fest to remove snow to get to the targets, but after that it was all go.

We had
Beltfed 492
Carbonrod 476
Ffynn 381
cam1936 343
Savage 330
Jesse 272 (That was a borrowed SKS)
Mitch 231
Jon 237
Rob 212
Exoce† 169

Some had equiptment malfuntions and so on, but there were lots of first timers handling their equiptment well.

If anyone is intersted, Email your RSVP to calgaryservicerifle@gmail DOT com at least the Tuesday before a match. This is for members, and non-members alike. We want active participants out there, but only realistically have a dozen spots we can fill before we need a third evening, or Saturday relay, which we will fill up provided we know to anticipate it.

Just wanted to say thanks to Beltfed, Carbonrod, and Savage? (Sorry - trying to match forum names to people) for putting on a great match, and helping us newbs ;)

Had a great match and it is good to see a fair amount of new shooters out.
Congrats to the two who won the random prize draws...be sure to thank our sponsors!!

Next match is fast approaching (next week) and this one is a Carbine course of fire with 220 rounds (180 carbine and 40 pistol)
Generally we'll have:
-30 rounds at 12m
-100 rounds at 25m
-30 rounds at 50m
-40 rounds at 75m
-20 rounds at 100m

What you'll need:

-Rifle or carbine with a sling. 2 point or 1 point would be good, but something that will allow transitions to pistol and support side shooting.

-Magazine retention. Mag changes will be manditory, and for some matches must be done on the clock (your 10 round LAR mags won't save you;))- Get something that works for you and shake it out prior to the match. We'll hold a clinic for those that want it on the Saturday. I'll be there as I have several layers of rust that need to be broken off.

-Lots of ammo - generally I bring 1.5 times the requirement just in case of re-shoots or shoot offs.

-Bring some snacks and a light lunch - we may run into the mid-afternoon if our numbers are up.

-Water and drinks.

-Prep for the weather - K-Country in March...

Don't sweat the pistol.
There are only two matches at 12m and 25m where pistols are used.
As this is a new course of fire, we're likely to be easing in the use of these matches that have transitions. It is quite likely we will not be holding all of the matches in the course of fire, these two included.
