Choke tube thread lube

I am so glad I have no guns with Choke tubes. 14 Shotguns and no Choke tubes. Life is good. ;)

Never used a choke lube; never had a choke loosen up. Just cleaned and stored after shooting. No problem.(20 yrs. at least)

Now some guy down the road from me has put the fear of god in me and I have been using "TC Super Lube Anti-Seize Lubricant with PTFE" (whatever the hell that is). It says on the squeeze tube that it is for "Firearms *Breech Plugs*Choke Tubes*Actions" No.7348.

Been using it since last fall.

If I now start to have any trouble with loose tubes or seized tubes after all these years I'm gonna go over there and kick his $$$.;)

BTW: My choke tube guns are Rem. & Browning & Stoeger.

(BBTW: A guy with 14 shotguns doesn't NEED choke tubes IMHO.);)

I had a stuck choke tube once, the only way the gunsmith could get it out was to heat the end of the barrel up with an oxy-acetylene. Left a horrible mark on the blueing (good thing it was a cheap gun!)

He recommended moly grease (I assume some sort of molybdenum based stuff??) Never failed me since

I use RIG gun grease but anything from Lubriplate to Hoppe's gun grease works fine. Be advised a little dab of grease on the choke tube threads will do 'ya. The only proper use for WD-40 around a shotgun is a bore cleaning solvent (not a lubricant) IMHO.

I have choke tubes in my old winchester pump. Had it 25 years and all I use is regular outers cheap oil on it. Mind you, I never wrench them in, just tighten firmly by hand. Never had one come loose either but I do check tighten the choke after a box or so when trap shooting.

Anything that keeps moisture out will work. Vaseline, engine oil, trans fluid, anti-seize, grease, etc. There's nothing magical about choke tube threads AFAIK.

Sounds like another Beretta Semi Auto post. "Why do my Chokes keep coming loose"?

It's not just Beretta Semi's. Every Beretta I have owned has done this. I call it Beretta's method of ensuring they never seize. :D They are always moving.

I always just use a drop or two of gun oil on my tubes and have never had a problem.
