scope recommendations for .22lr

I have a Tasco 2.5-10x 42mm given to me freely by a great CGN member. It's mounted with 10$ Redfield scope rings on a Savage Mark II BTV. Great accuracy, 2 thumbs up here. With this experience, I'll never put more than 150$ on a scope for a rimfire. It's not the recoil that will kill it, there is not really what can be called recoil to kill a scope on this :p My friend has the Bushnell 4-12x 40mm w/ AO, 90$ at LeBaron, if I have to get a new one, I would get that one, great scope on his 10/22.

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on my 10/22. 160$ in Canada, 90$ down south on the other side of the border. Got it from my gf for my B-Day.

Save some $$ and offer yourself a100$ more expensive riffle or a bipod with what you would be saving. :p

I love those Simmons 3-9 scopes! They are worth more then $50 in my opinion. The glass and the functionality of the scope is awesome. I have 2 of them.
 
it's kind of funny how we existed for years with only the bushnell 4x20 rimfire or the 2-7x22 bushnell variable - maybe wth a 4x20 tasco thrown in

No s**t! Some people are ridiculous. 100 yards is nearing the maximum effective range of the .22LR. I can do quarter size groups with a $50 simmons 9x scope at that range. Anything greater than 9x is unnecessary.

"tactical"? easy to use turrets (no tool needed to turn them...)

Uh, well, every scope made now a-days can be adjusted with your fingers. The only difference between a 'tactical' one and a non-tactical is that you have to remove the covers to turn them. Even that $50 simmons can be adjusted with your fingers (it's designed to be).

i didnt know that... the reason i wanted that is cause my friends scope on his .22 needs a coin or somthing to adjust it, its very anoying...

Fair enough, mine too requires a screw driver to adjust after removing the covers... spose I could try and use a thumnnail, but may very well crack it
 
I got a Vortex Crossfire from One Shot Tactical and couldn't be happier with their service.
There are 2 scopes with AO, one at about $180 and another around $250.
I got the cheaper one, way better than the POS it replaced.

If you want high power, it is much more important to have it on a .22 than on a centerfire. You do a lot of short distance shooting with a .22 and that is where you need the AO.
 
P&D shows the Bushnell Banner, a great scope for the price, 6-24x40 AO Mil Dot semi target turrets for $156 or the one I would recommend the 3.5-10x36 for $111.00. With the BDC turrets for .17 and .22 you don't need a screwdriver to adjust elevation. I don't think you need a huge amount of magnification to learn how to shoot. Anything over about 12x you start to see your heartbeat/pulse and it can get very frustrating. 10-12x is all you need in a .22 scope to start.

If you want a budget (cheap) scope keep the magnification down. A fixed 4X scope for $50 will have better clarity than a $150 6-24X variable. I borrowed a friends Bushnell Banner 6-24X and the higher end of the magnification was so poor I could hardly find the target.

By keeping the magnification low (fixed 4X, 2-7X or 3-9X at the most) you will be okay with a cheap (under $150) scope but raise the magnification and you will need to double the price (at least) to be satisfied with the clarity of the product.

to the people who have the vortex crossfire scopes, when you have it cranked up to max zoom, do you find that it gets blurry like everyone says all these high power scopes have problems with? or is the glass good quality? anyone have anything bad to say about them or are they good scopes for the price? anyone have any other ones i should look in to? (might as well keep my options open...)

oooo and BTW to everyone saying i should get a lower power scope, what makes you think i will have it set up to max all the time or i am gonna be trying to hit targets at like 1000 yards with this thing? having a far zoom can be handy some times, just like in a camera, im most of the pics you take you dont use the zoom that much but when your trying to get a pic at a far, the zoom is nice and handy cause you dont want to bee seeing all the stuff around your target and have a hard time seeing your target in your sights cause its so small in your screen... some times its handy, but just because its there dosnt mean you have to use it...
 
i think what's happened is that the pendulum has swung the other way- typically, we used to go to canadian tire, pick up a 10/22 and a couple of extra mags ,a brick of ammo, and go gophering -today's 10/22 doesn't even get fielded unless it's got a aftermarket barrel and stock, harris bipod, and at least a 7x50 mm scope- well, all that glass does you no good unless you're doing dusk/dawn- and i blame things like the chevy challenge for this- sure it improves the retailer's bottom line, but what fun is it when you have to take a half-day to be satisfied with your shot?- gophers /rabbits/squirrels are all about QUANTITY not quality- as long as you have a repeatable zero , it should be the LIGHTEST, most compact gun you have - and swing easy too, like a 20 guage
and you should be shooting offhand, not bedded down like a target shooter
 
ok i have made up my mind... im gonna try the vortex crossfire 6-24x50 :D

anyone know where to buy one? i have tried wholesale sports in langley but they wont be able to get it for a while...
 
dose anyone have a pic of a mark 2 with a vortex crossfire 6-24x50 on it? after reading its 15 inchs long and measuring my gun i think it will look to big lol...

that looks ok... actually looks cool... it looks to be over 15 inches, so i think im good :D also reminds me i got to get a few 5 round mags, the 10 round banana mag looks out of place on them, i wish they had a straight mag... :(
