I just mounted a Schmidt/Bender 5-25x56 PMII scope on my TRG 42 338 Lapua and tried it at the range today, and I have a question about the parallax adjustment. My previous scope also had the parallax adjustment but no range indicators on the dial like the S&B. When I set the parallax adjustment to 100 yards (as per the reading on the dial), then look through the scope at max power, the image is very fuzzy. The image doesnt come into focus until the dial reads approx 190 yards. Am I doing something wrong, or is it normal to just adjust the dial until the image snaps into view and ignore the dial readings?

Ignore the dial Reading. You should adjust Parallax until you have no movement of the reticle on the target with the rifle at rest and you moving your eye around the eye piece. You may have a blurred image when this is attained and have to turn your eyepiece focus to clear up the image. I am not sure about the S&B but you may be able to "zero" your Parallax knob just like the turrets.

Do a search in this and the optics forum. Many people have asked this question and you should be able to find detailed procedures on how to set up a new scope.

I tried the search function, but it didnt seem to give me much. I'm not so sure I'm using the search function properly...I always have a hard time finding stuff!

With the focus properly adjusted for your eyes, the settings on the Parallax will normally be close. I can actually do rough ranging with my Parallax adjustment on my S&B 5-25. But not everyone's eyes work the same.

In our experience having mounted and fired hundreds of SB scopes the range graduations on this adjustment are worthless and should not be there...A few years ago at SHOT Steve told them that also but that only garnered blank stares lol...
