Shorten PAL Approval Times

Ask why there is no record of the application which Canada Post has already delivered.

I asked this exact question on my second call and she said (paraphrased) "There's thousands of pieces of mail delivered here every day. It's not like we open it up and enter it into the system as soon as it arrives. Give it at least a couple of weeks, for sure."

Within a day or two after that call, mine appeared online and was already "in progress".

I called to make sure everything is in order and she said "Yep, it all looks good. Shouldn't be much longer. You probably be approved by the end of the week."

I'm only going for PAL, BTW.

"We have no record of it" vs. "We are not going to look for it". Do you see the difference?
Here is your reply to Mr Freeze fixed:
"Call them. Something similar happened to me and I called back twice and mine was online in a few days."

I called in today to check on my application (PAL and RPAL) that they received feb 11.

They asked to do my interview right then, and both the chick who answered the phone and the interviewer suggested that I have my references call in to save time.

My application received at 8 am this morning at the CFC. How many days should I wait before calling and harassing them, like 3-4?

I completely agree with everything that you wrote here, calalta. In fact this is exactly what I did with my application and as far as I know neither my references or I got calls for interviews. I called once to check my application status, and the next day my application was available on the CFC website. I called again 2-3 days later and was told on the phone that they had all of the information they needed, that my application was finished, and at the end of the mandated 28 day waiting period, I would be getting my licence. Be polite, but be persistent, and you will most likely cut down on the amount of time your application spends sitting on someone's desk before it's processed.

In response to the query about the interview questions, these are similar to those in the application.
They ask about: any history of violence, past substance abuse (drugs and alcohol), criminal record, a separation or pending separation, depression, as well as employment and financial problems (nearly 80% of gun homicides are suicides). Also have they ever seen you get angry. Seems to me lots of people get angry without pulling a gun, but that shows you how they think.
Years ago the privacy commissioner deemed many of the questions in breach of the federal law, and requested they be amended, (he had no power to force any amendments). Nothing was done and later commissioners have not pursued this.

They received my app on Feb 11, call me for my interviews this week, got them all done and called today because one of my references had missed the call sobi was calling in to see if I should have her call in. Turns out my reference had called them back and I hadn't heard that lol, so the lady was extremely nice on the phone and said my application was sent off for finalization which does that mean that it's @ the Alberta CFO office now?

Btw the ladies there are incredibly nice to deal with surprisingly some of the best phone customer service I've ever had, never thought I'd head myself say government and great customer service in the same sentence lol!

Quick question about "sending my app in early"... Section G in particular.

I had planned on waiting until I finished my courses to send in my results with my app, and subsequently filled out the date & Province of my courses.

I'm contemplating sending my app in early, but was thinking they might hold-up my app because of Section 'G' being filled out but not having the course results...

I'd only be sending the app in a week before my courses (Mar 8,10,13), so should I wait or mail the SOB to Mirimachi...?

And I realize that if I send it Monday, they won't get it till the following Monday atleast. And by then I should know (& have) my test results to fax to them...

* BTW - I'm not desperate or in a big rush, but don't want any hold-ups...

Thoughts...?

Today is day 28. How happy am I right now?? I just woke 2 people up shouting "YEEESS". :D

Edit:

I was a little excited just then, would like to add to this post, big thanks to Calata for this thread, I followed the advice and my licence as I said before has been issued after exactly 28 days. Calling in yourself and getting references to call in is a big help, they did actually leave mine a message when they called, I think because the answerphone message they have gives full names. Can't believe it's all sorted. I'm going to give the CFO a call at a reasonable hour and see if I can get my number. Let the spending commence!

CFO received my application on 10th of december, 2010. They interviewed me and my references on 4th of Jan, my application was forwarded to CLO-Ontario on 6th of Jan. Nothing so far. Have called them twice. They say that they are taking my app. to the Team Leader who will decide my fate.
keeping my fingers crossed. the waiting is killing me.
What have they been doing with my application for last 2 months.
sucks!

i didn't have to call them for interviews, they called me 12 days in, and both my references, one answered the other i had call back the next day...

and the day after that i was "approved" but had to wait 14 more days for the wait period
the best part about sending it xpresspost it had got to them a day late so i got my postage back :D

I sent mine in Feb 18th by regular mail, didn't think about sending registered until I saw this thread. I just want it in time for Turkey hunting season.

And to think Homer Simpson only had to wait 3 days!

I wouldn't worry about it, in a few days you will walk out with your exam results in hand, and you can send in the whole package.
It is really Ont. applicants who wait about an extra 6 weeks that should send in the application without waiting for the 'verified' scores.

John, methinks you haven't read the posts (just the thread name) and jumped the gun.

Some others (I? guilty) also jumped the gun and sent in their applications before taking the exams, annotating that the exam results would be following. The application was online (with a Reference number) before I even did the CFSC/CRFSC (and passed). The 28 days period starts on the day when CFC Miramichi signs for the registered envelope (it's usually received by "Brown", never "Smith" or "Green") or if sent unregistered, the day that they (doesn't have to be "Brown") say they received it in the mail.

CFC does NOT have to wait 45 days, but 28 is the minimum (for RPAL)

I'm from Manitoba. i already had my PAL and was upgrading to RPAL.

-Mailed application and test on Feb 8.
-Called to check if they had received it on Feb 14 and was told they didn't know if they had it because it was not in their system yet.
-Came online as received on Feb 15.
-Called in on March 1 and completes my interview.
-Called my references on March 1 and they both called in to complete interviews.
-On March 4 showed online as process complete, licence issued and if not received in 2 weeks to call in.

Hope that was helpful. The whole process went very smooth and went as quickly as i could expect. Thank you for the helpful guide, it worked great.

Day 25 today since they received my application.
Called to make sure everything was in order and was told its been forwarded to the chief firearms officer for his approval.
Hopefully that goes quickly and they mail it out next week:rockOn:
Thanks for the info:)
