Ok so I'm still trying different types of ammo for the 10/22. I've eliminated the 333's.....to many FTF and wouldn't group worth sh!t..... The Remington Yellow Jackets functioned very well....... CCI Blazer gave me the best results so far. My main problem is that I'm looking for the best ammo to use on PD's ( Oh sorry, Richardsons Ground Squirrels) when I fly out to AB this summer to blast the little rodents for a week of carnage. Since the solids will be less effective than a hollowpoint on such a tiny target I'm turning my efforts towards finding the right HP for my 10/22.
This is my next test batch.

anyone tried these in their rifle? How did they work on varmints? I'm sticking 40gr ammo as it gave me the best results with the Blazer ammo. On the downside this stuff ain't cheap at 49$ a brick.

I think the ghost of millions of gophers might argue about the effectiveness of solids!

But whatever. I'd take a solid that shoots well over a HP that didn't.

Cheers

Velociters are a hyper velocity round. They shoot flat and mushroom well.
A little hot for target, but a good hunting round.

They are a sweet round but I find they just punch right through gophers. The Remington Yellow Jackets I have found make the biggest mess of gophers and your gun :D

Mabe try out CCI Segmented HP's. The 40 gr ones are sub-sonic. I have used them and the results are awesome, but I can't remember if I used the 32 or 40 grain ones.

I have had the exact same experience as you with the Blazer performing the best in my 10/22 as well.

I have your the hollow point you are looking for, and they are cheap and plentiful. They perform on par with the Blazer, although I get the occasional FTF.

Best thing is they are available at most Walmarts, and Canadian tire.

"...Yellow Jackets functioned very well..." They would. How well did they shoot out of your rifle?
"...Since the solids will be less effective..." Friggin' things only weigh 750 grams(1.65 lbs) when they go off to bed. 200 to 400 grams when they come out. Something that small won't know or care if it's killed by a solid or an HP. Accuracy out of your rifle is what matters. Not the type of bullet.

In my hunting experience, the solids leave more wounded animals than the hollow points. Quick kills would be desired in that situation. I found that a head shot or spine shot was only effective for the solids but the expanding hollows gave much better results with any kind of hit.

Yellow jackets are dirty
Velocitors have never grouped well out of any gun I have owned, and I have a #### load of .22's
cci mini mags, american eagle 38gr HP, and winchester 40gr power point are my go to's. The federal 525 bulk packs are pretty good too

I'd strive for a hollow point that shoots 1moa, because that's the size of a gopher at 100yds., I use the CCI seg. HP, but like the .17 HMR better because it is more accurate then my .22s except when I feed them premium fodder like Lapua.

I went to the range today to try the CCI Velocitors......they shoot better than the 333's but not as tight as the blazers....This was at 50 yards. The two flyers with the blazers was my fault and I knew they were off as I pulled the trigger......both are groups of 10 shots with a front rest.

Gonna try the Winchester hyper velocity next.
