this sks is up for auction . what caught my eye is the stock , its strange shape and the exotic looking wood , not the typical capalta wood, i dont think its custom cos it has serial number .

i wonder why the shape and what kind of a wood ?

btw , its a sino soviet chinese SKS , not only was it built in the first year in 1956 but the serial number starting with an "A" so it might even been built the first month.

Large open grains on the wood=fast growing soft wood. On a side note I don't think a military stock could function with such a weak wrist. my .02

the serial on the stock should be the same as on teh received and bolt carrier.. it's not therefore i gotta agree bubba special. even if they did match it would still probably be a bubba special. Yuper john has essentialy all the sks info known to man on his site and i have never seen anything like that on there... it's an sks worth 150-200 maybe less because of the bubba'd stock.

I'm no expert, and as I always say just a very opinionated type... But that stock looks like it was cut for prone shooting using bags (sand, medium, etc) under the stock to me. Almost like there was an attempt to make the stock a grip-style at the wrist, put a notch for a bag under the stock and then be shot from a prone position. But then again... not an expert.

Now that i'm taking a closer look at it, it looks rather awkward to hold. if your index finger is in the trigger guard, then your other 3 surely are not going to be able to grip the stock... I don't get it.

i had a few yugo before but the wood didnt look like that .

i know the stock is modified but why that shape ? it looks awkward .

It looks like a stock from a 59/66 Yugoslavian SKS. I would say it came from a 59/66. The 59/66 stocks are a nice grade of Beechwood. Too bad he carved away bits of it, and the rubber butt pad comes with the 59/66 stocks.
