Just curious which restricted pistol (5+ capacity) is the smallest while still keeping within the barrel length limits?

H&K P7 9mm has the shortest (106 mm using Canadian measurement system) permitted barrel for a Restricted class firearm. Mag capacity is 8 rounds.

What about a compact commander? Colt and S&W build a nice 7 shot model. Maybe not quite as small as a P7, but maybe more comfortable.

He asked what the smallest 5+ shot "pistol" is.
Yes. Although the original post really had that covered. Mind you, "restricted while still keeping within the barrel length limits" is very Department of Redundancy Department.
My Browning 1922's are 178 mm long, the P7M13 is 175 mm. I could take an angle grinder to the Brownings.

avroe- The P7M8 was discontinued years ago. You're looking at used units only, and the prices are ridiculous. I've never seen one for under $1200, and the better ones are much higher than that. Compare that to US prices for the same pistol, and you'll wonder what all the fuss is about. I've seen them in Montana for $600.

This is true. But they are well worth the price. Mine has been incredibly accurate (beating other HKs, Glocks, Sigs, 1911) while having a shorter barrel and a shorter sight radius.

It is by far my favourite pistol, and the only pistol that I would consider owning more than one of. I own the original P7 (heel mag release), which has the Robar NP3 finish. Very durable. Last gun I would ever sell, and I would not feel at a disadvantage being armed with it vs. any of my other pistols.

H&K P7 M8 9mm

Which CGN supporting dealer is the lowest price option for one of these bad boys?

Blue Line Activities had a few P7 M8's in stock a month or so ago but I notice they don't have any listed in their full inventory list now. They were selling them for around $2000. You could try contacting them to see if they can order one for you.

You could buy one from a private individual (has to ship through a FFL dealer in the US) or a FFL dealer on sites such as GunsAmerica and use a Canadian importer such as Prophet River Firearms (PRF) to bring them across the border through their FFL dealer in Montana. You pay the FFL shipping charge ($25-$50) up-front to the seller and he ships the gun to PRF's FFL dealer. PRF charges around $300 for this service (including shipping to you); however, it takes anywhere from 9-12 months or more to do this for Restricted class firearms. Shotguns and rifles take a lot less time. I'm still waiting for a Taurus PT 1911 pistol to clear Canadian customs after buying it on March 18, 2010 from a FFL dealer in Virginia.

You could also pick up a used PSP, it is similar to the P7M8, but has a heel release. The PSPs are cheaper than the P7M8s, you should be able to find one under $1k.

As for small pistols, there is also a Llama 9mm, that is quite small. It is a small frame 1911.

+1 the HK P7. PSP (bottom mag release) is about 5mm overall smaller than the P7M8. I know because I because I bought the wrong holster for my P7 PSP.

Next smallest and a bit lighter / as accurate in my hands is the Sig P239. Another lovely gun, also pricey.

Cheapest in this size is the FN/Browning 1910 with a restricted barrel. If you can get a 106mm barrel (which measures 107 with the headspace to the slide face) your overall size is a whopping 1mm shorter, or 165mm measured with calipers. It's about as thick as the P7 due to the grips, and holds 6+1 .380, but is not as tall and 230 grams (1/2 a pound) lighter.

They're kind of Art Deco, and you can buy 3 for the price of an HK P7 PSP... plus you'd have the gun that started WWI.

Aren't the Charter Arms 44sp Buldogs available with 4,2" barrel now? I have one with 3" barrel and find them very compact and in caliber so much better than 9mm pea shooter....

The Llama Mini Max looks pretty badass, but would require a re-barrel to get it restricted.

Many of these floating around Canada?

Those P7's would be nice to own, but way overpriced so there not worth it.

I would honestly look at a Ruger SR9, because they have a 4.14 barrel length, and they carry 10+1 9mm. The gun wieghs 26 oz, and its one of the smallest Restricted pistols that you can get, and its a great price also.
