Not sure where to post this so mods please move if you feel you need to. I have a Armalite AR10 match grade rifle, Badger Railed Forgrip, Magpul Stock, GG&G Tritium BUIS, GG&G Scope Mount. This is my first AR. It shoots very, very well. I had one last part I wanted for it to finish it off. I recently purchased an A4 type flash hider for this rifle which has 11/16thX24 TPI threading for the barrel. Which came from Armalite originally for DND, they have specified muzzle threading of this diameter to accept OPS INC Generation 3 suppressors. The flash hider was built for these rifles and is ported on one side only. I assume the ports are to be facing up. When screwed on it does not index parallel. Would a crush washer solve this issue or is gun/rifle smithing required to insure proper indexing of the flash hider? Suggestions or places to purchase crush washers would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have almost the same arrangement on my AR-10. If your flash suppressor has only ports on one side, are you sure is a flash suppressor and not a recoil reduction (comp)? I don't know where you can find crush washers to fit the barrel but if you do, please let me and others know. Mine came with an Armalite attached recoil suppressor that was a real pain to remove and install the Badger free floating hand guard but once removed it can be replaced, thus the interest on the crush washers that will solve your problem. Another alternative is to drill and tap an allen screw in the flash suppressor and use this to secure the proper orientation, perhaps with the help of some Locktite.

Hello
Thank you for the reply. I was told it was a A4 Type Flash Hider but when it arrived it has slots on only one side. I believe A4 Flash Hiders have slots all the way around? I was not concearned about the indexing because of this. To me it seems to be a comp. that appears similiar to a A4 Flash Hider but I have not fired it yet to see if it reduces recoil. I also do not know if a crush washer would work to solve my index issue. Just seemed to make sense as I know that my M14 built by the good M14 Doctor has a crush washer and the comp is indexed perfectly. I see many rifles that do use them and really I'm assuming this as well as the reason that the Compensator/Flash Hider can also be snugged up properly so it does not lossen during shooting.

I have the same upper, I bought a .308 crush washer and bored it out to 11/16. I also bought a tap and made my own brake which is a direct copy of the SEI navy brake

A crush washer is the more modern alternative to the set of washers of various thicknesses to align the suppressor correctly. A flash suppressor may indeed have prongs symmetric all around, they are perhaps the most effective, but they can raise dust if you shoot prone so some other designs are asymmetric with openings around the sides and the top. Th standard A2 suppressor (the bird cage) on the AR-15 (or M16) is a classic example. As I said, I found the solution of an allen screw and a bit of locktite for my AR-10 works to perfection and allowed me to index the suppressor to the desired location easily. So you have several alternative solutions, I just like the allen screw.

Hi
I received some info from some very reputable gun/rifle smiths and they confirmed/mentioned to do the same thing. Crush washers are on their way from Wolverine Supplies. Thank you for taking the time to post and affirming my thoughts. The flash hider was apparently designed for this rifle and has ports that are to face up ward but it looks similar to a “Bird Cage" type flash hider. For the exact reasons Miltiades posted above.
