Ruger 10/22 Firing Problem

The rifle shoots the first round fine, ejects the empty casing, loads the next round, but does not #### the hammer, whats the deal?
I tried taking it apart and giving it a pretty good cleaning, but made no difference.
Also tried different ammo, both high velocity and regular stuff. Any help or opinions would be appreciated!
 
Probably the trigger is not resetting. Try this: Make sure gun is unloaded!

#### and dry fire, keep the trigger pulled.
Cycle the action, with the trigger still pulled.
Release the trigger.
Try to dry fire again.
If it doesn't fire, push the trigger forward, and listen for a click sound.
Try to dry fire again.
If it fires, your problem is the trigger reset.

If it is the trigger reset, you will have to check your reset spring and plunger, that sit behind the trigger. I had one do this after I put a metal trigger in a polymer trigger group. The trigger would touch the gaurd and not fully reset. Hope this helps.
 
I'm having a trigger reset problem right now.

I ordered a hammer and sear but only the hammer came so I installed that. The hammer came with a trigger reset spring and I'm not sure if I put the new reset spring in or the old one.

It worked fine in bench testing but last time at the range I occasionally had to flick the trigger forward to reset it.
In the meantime the sear came in the mail so I'll be taking it down again. Then we shall see.

I polished the plunger but did notice a molding line on the rear of the trigger itself. Since the plunger is at an angle I wonder if that isn't part of the problem, catching on that casting flash.
I'll clean that up, put the new sear in and try it.

Last resort - I'm thinking of filling the plunger hole with JB and re-drilling it straight instead of the production angle.

When I got the gun I noticed the charging handle rod had some rust and almost looks pitted under the spring and didn't slide very smoothly.
There's a lot of tension there, quite a bit off center as well, maybe that's where your drag is.

Is it possible that you mixed up your trigger return spring with the one for the sear? That would cause the problem your having.

Courtnan, Thanks for the suggestion! I tried it, and sure enough the trigger reset was not working. So I took the trigger assembly apart, cleaned it all, (the reset spring and plunger especially) put it back together and now it is reseting wonderfully.

Exactly right Courtntan. The aftermarket sear spring looks the same aside from the tapered end that grabs the pin.
