I have a Savage 93btvs coming next week and I was just wondering, is there any issues with shooting long rifles in a magnum? You can shoot shorts in a LR, so does the same apply to rifles chambered for magnums? This will be my first magnum..
Jesus... Only what is stamped on the barrel!
I can't believe this question is raised so often.![]()

Ok, thanks. I wasn't aware that the magnums also had a larger diameter.
Normally I would agree with this however this is not always the case. Case in point: .22 shorts in a barrel stamper "LR" or "Long Rifle". Have you ever seen a .22 chambered for only shorts or a barrel stamp that states "shorts"? If so, please indicate which ones because I am yet to even hear of one. Another example is a 12 guage chambered for 3 1/2 inch shells. They can still chamber and safely fire 3" and 2 3/4" shells.
Better to ask the questions then test it out for yourself and risk equipment damage, personal injury or even worse, injury to others.
