Scope Recommendations....Help!!

if you havent used a scope much avoid a 36x scope you will need a scope to aim your scope.Buy a 3to9 or 4to 12 in whatever looks good to you

For paper punching, higher mag is addictive.

My faves over the years have been the Elite 4200 AO 6-24 and 8-32. Some of the best glass you can buy (same factory as NF). Great tracking but limited elevation adjustment. For the distances you intend to play, these will work great AND easily under your budget.

But with the new Sightrons, that's all I use. Yes, they are that much better.

In the older gen fixed 36X, the Weaver and SII are peas in a pod. Both have great track records in BR shooting and these guys are fussy. But they have 80's and 90's tech and much has improved.

For a bit more money, the new SII Big Sky is so much better. That is what I choose to use on my backup F class rig and for my rimfire practise rifles. Optics are great, adjustments track very well, and the mag lets you see so much. You can aim on a pencil line at 200yds.

There are some variables and fixed 24X in this price range too.

Personally, for paper punching, I use the FCH and leave the mildot for my LR plinkers where I shoot rocks, clays and gongs.

Have a look at my website. Some prices are wrong due to the stronger dollar but you get the idea.

Anyways, good used can be great so don't discount that.

But if you are considering new, I have yet to see any scope that offers better optics AND mechanicals then these new gen Sightrons.

Or else I would use them....

Thanks for all the info. I think i would prefer FCH as well as i just plan on shooting paper. I'm set up to reload .223 now so eventually i want to get into tweeking reloads and shooting and trying to get the tightest groups etc etc. I know i had a thread before about 223 you posted on. Well now i have a rifle just need a good scope! I will definitely look into Sightrons.

Also out of curiosity when looking through a 36x mag scope can it be really shaky?? Like i have a cheaper spotting scope and at 36x even on the tripod it can be shaky. I will be putting a bi-pod on my rifle as well as probably a rest for the back as well at some point.

Anyway thanks again all for the great info :)

What exactly makes the Big Sky version so much better.
What mechanical improvements, glass, coatings, light transference numbers etc. make it worth the difference?

You can also aim at a pencil at 200yds with a Weaver36X
