Your husband simply doesnt like the fact that if you get a pistol, youll also be getting your own safe that he wont (legally) be allowed to have access to. Not to mention that if you start collecting, you'll eventually need your own ROOM or VAULT which he wont (legally) be able to have access to. Just remember not to mount your reloading press to your sewing machine table, because primers and sewing machines may not mix well. LOL.

i'm really wanting to get into IPSC shooting but my hubby is being a pain about letting me buy a handgun! my husband is concerned about having the police showing up at our door at all times of the day and night harassing me(us) and wanting to see my safely stored pistol and ram sacking our home.
I'm wondering how much of a problem this is for Canadian handgun owners?
what about if we get stopped for say "speeding",will the police insist on ripping apart my vehicle to see if i am transporting today with an ATT?
If you are worried about that strong odour of weed wafting out your windows, then I would suggest you get rid of your dope stash and clean out that ash try in the car.

If they don't ask, you don't tell...and since you did tell...he still doesn't not have probable cause to search your vehicle cause, you're obviously law abiding citizen and have not given a reason for the cop to believe something wrong or illegal has occured.
You should have complained to his supervisor or higher up.
and to the lady who posted this thread.. I agree with most here...i've been pulled over many times since owned guns and ONLY once, the officer asked if I happen to have a gun in the car with me and I said "No" and he said, o.k. have a nice day.
and except for my initial check of the house when I first applied for my FAC (1991), never had anyone come to inspect again....

How is it that Canadians tolerate "inspections" of their home before they even have either a licence or a firearm? Good lord folks, there is no lawful authority for this. If the Ontario CFO insists, take him to court, on a criminal charge, and get him convicted of abusing his lawful authority.
There is a whole industry out there for competent trial lawyers warding off the excesses of CFO's. Too bad we did not have an NRA to pay them.
To the OP, unless hubby has something unsavory in his past, there is no reason to be stopped by police, nor any reason to let them into your home. Yes, the CFO can arrange an inspection of your firearm storage, by appointment, at mutually reasonable convenience. Which means "Not right now, officer, I'm going out." but doesn't mean - "Come back next year, I might be home." It means, "Next Tuesday at 10 AM would be convenient. Does that work for you?" "No? How about Tuesday at 2PM?"
And yeah, to my experience the cops do hassle some folks. Apparently some folks keep showing upon the cops' radar literally and figuratively. Those folks, if licenced gun owners, would be exremely well advised to follow the gun transport and storage regulations to an extraordinary degree of precision. But us normal folks generally get by just obeying our ludicrous laws. Empty 'em all, lock the ones that need to be locked, put the restricted and prohibs in a locked box, all of 'em in a safe, have the ight papers, in proper order, (expired anything is not good) and you're good to go.

yes,surprisingly enough my hubby does have a couple crappy guns.He is the kind of guy who MIGHT go shooting the day before hunting season opens.After he misses his deer 5 or 6 times then he usually ends up borrowing my rifle because he never even made sure his gun was sighted in properly-a real enthusiast you know!

Fixed it! Not that there's anything wrong with his sewing! Man card revoked for original offence however.Don't worry about searches, they do not have to be granted without a warrant, unless they have reasonable suspicion that you are involved in a crime.
For anyone with collector status, or I believe over 10 guns, the CFO can set up an appointment for viewing storage facilities. I don't recall ever hearing of it actually happening. I'm sure some of the guys in the "hundreds club" may have experienced it.
This one really is a keeper.............appreciates quality guns, dislikes crappy marksmanship, wants in on IPSC.........keeper I say!

What you really need to deal with is the real reasons why he is discouraging you.

Why would the police check your car to see if your transporting? How do they know that you own any guns? unless you have a "1911 inside" sticker on your back window, what would tip them off? Would you really drive around with a cased handgun on the passenger seat?
