I hope I'm posting this in the right place. While coyote hunting the other day I had a big nice coyote come into the field with the sun behind him. He froze and stared me down at about 500 yards. I was in full white facemask gloves everything laying down with a white gun under some cedar branches of the tree line. I think he saw the reflection of my scope. My question is will a sunshade reduce the glare off the lens? I have a barska 6-24x42ao scope and the inside of it is threaded I believe for a shade but the company doesn't show one in their catalog and haven't returned my emails. Would this thread be a common type shared with other brands ie. Tasco as they have a scope of the same size? Any help or experiences would be great. I don't care about weight or length even if its 6-8" long as its a varmit/coyote gun not a carrying gun. Thanks

Look into ARD deviece's.

You don't need to have a 6 to 8 inch shade no more but get's the no glint you be looking for.
;)

On low power scopes you can see it slightly and it does cut down on light transmission through the scope to a noticeable degree.

With the objective size, some sun shades will fit on different makes, however it depends on the threads.

On the OP's scope, I don't think it will be visible. I should add that some ARD's I have seen vary in the thickness of the "grid lines". This may allow you to notice them more easily than others under low magnification.
You may, under poor conditions, notice a degradation of the image you see as the light entering the scope in lessened.

Look for the ones that fit inside the butter creek flip up cover's. As if it's a low light situation then all you will need to do is pop of the scope cover and regain all loss if light transition caused from the ARD device. Also for the loss of light transition is the same as an 6" sun shade further more you can use the flip up cover as a hat type cover to keep the rain of the shade.

Sun shades????

Varmet hunting, I would question this idea of a reflection from a scope????
I'm wondering about wind direction, that's more important, coyote or a dog will pick that up at unbelievable distances.
Enjoy the sport. Bill

I had the wind on him. No movement whatsoever and he stared directing at me. I've since placed my rifle in the same spot and walked to where he was. The scope is very noticeable. But thanks for thje ideas guys

.. You MAY get away with a trip to the Local Hardware Store, and rummaging through the Plumbing and Plastic Pipe section....... I'm using a chunk of Grey tubing that was designed to join two different sized pipes, as a Sun Shade, on my vintage, "El Cheapo" Spotting Scope. ..... Not elegant, and it can wobble a bit, but VERY effective for what I need ! And Cheap ! ..... David K

in a pinch, can you try pulling a black stocking over it? it'll make the view a bit darker but shoud also cut the reflection, and it's a "one size fits all". kind of like what robbers do for a facemask.

my Leopold ARD actually fits inside the flip up scope cover, and still fits fine on the rifle, it does not actually thread into my scope. Depending on your scope covers if your ARD is narrow enough it should fit in and the cover should hold it in place.
