After researching and asking questions here (and elsewhere), I figured out what handloading equipment I would like to get.
But I now have several very puzzling questions (well, puzzling to me
First off, some numbers I put together from the net that I will refer to later in this post:
The following is from the Custom Reloading Service price list.
<QUOTE>
•9 mm 115 GR/ 124 GR/ 147GR ---: $ 110.00 PER 500 / $ 11.00 PER BOX
Cleaned and sorted brass •9mm-----------: $ 25.00 PER 1000
FEDRAL#100 SMALL PISTOL PRIMERS---$35.00 PER 1000
•9mm 124GR TMJRN (CAMPRO)----$95.00 per 1000
•9MM 124GR FMJRN (BDX)---$115.00 per 1000
•9mm 124GR TMJRN (BERRY)---$77.00 PER 1000
<END OF QUOTE>
Powder is around $35.00
From the above mentioned, the following conclusions and questions:
1000 9mm 124gr ammo costs ~$220.00
1000 primers, bullets, casings and powder ~$200.00
Making 1000 bullets= a lot of time on an SS loading press.
Partial conclusion: either I have misinterpreted costs or reloading doesn't save a lot of money.
Questions:
1. I understand the "hobby" part of handloading (feeling of accomplishment, etc). But, for me one of these 2 things should be present (either or both is good enough for me) 1. trade off time spent for money saved. or 2. trade off time spent for quality of product
2. I listed 3 bullet types and their prices. Would someone please briefly summarise why I would choose one bullet over another? There seems to be many variations. Is this strictly related to cost? accuracy? Does a TMJRN (BERRY) cost less because it is less accurate or is less quality(maybe causing extra wear on my pistol) than a TMJRN (CAMPRO)?
All info appreciated, even if its just a link to somewhere I can find this info. Many thanks in advance.
