Norinco bushranger in .223

IMO, there are much better options. Stevens 200 is one of them. I had a norc in 7.62, and it was garbage! But that was only my experience.

Sombody on the forum very recently did a before and after range report on his rifle (bedding, trigger work, etc). The conclusion: You cant polish a turd.

However I do have one in 7.62x39 that shoots quite well after bedding, trigger and muzzle recrown......

I just found some 223 test results. A mild load under a Sierra 60gr HP bullet grouped 0.755".

Groups got bigger with hotter loads. IVI grouped around 4"

other soft points i tried did not do as well as the Sierra 60HP

I was given fair warning to stay away from the bushranger. I should have listened. I gave Norinco the benifit of the doubt and I just got burned big time. I recieved the bushranger JW-105 by mail last week from Frontier Firearms. I loaded up 10 cases and fired two. In each instance, I had a hard time opening the bolt. On inspecting both fired cases, I found that the axis of the bore and the chamber were out of alignment. I'll post pics of the brass as soon as I figure out how.
The purpose of this post is to warn others of the dangers of purchasing a Norinco product as they appear to have no quality control.
I should have listened to others.

I got one in trade from a buddy for installing a wood stove. Can't say I am really out much, but not something to write home about. I find that the first round out of a cold barrel goes EXACTLY where you tell it to. After that, it's anybody's guess. I suppose that that is not so critical since you should only need that ONE shot, but this is not satisfactory.
It prints about a 4", 5-shot group at 100yds. If you try for a 10-shot string, you get about 6" group. My worst SKS shoots better!!
I still have to do some work on it and see if it can be made serviceable. Either way, it is mine and I couldn't, in good conscience, sell it to anyone as a working gun. I don't like the magazine and the bolt feels sloppy.
I would have done the work for my friend for free (he has been out of work for awhile) but he felt he needed to give me something. I took this because the option was a real rifle; a Browning A-bolt in .30-06.
Thinking back on it, I should have taken the Browning, then I could have sold it back to him CHEAP when he was back on his feet. Now it will probably be given out in trade for some other job and he will get rooked. Maybe I should call him and see if the A-Bolt is still on the table....
