I own a x-bolt in 7mm WSM. It would be so similar to an x-bolt in 270 wsm that they're practically the same thing. I don't think it kicks very hard, but it is noticeably more than my .280 in a Remington Mtn rifle. The kick on both of those is WAAYY less than on my husqvarna lightweight in 30-06. The husky has a plastic buttstock, and the recoil is quite sharp. Leaves a bruise after a box of ammo. If I were shooting all day I'd by far rather shoot my x-bolt than my husky.
My recommendation, though, is that if this is your first big game rifle, then you should stick to the standard cartridges. The x-bolt is a fabulous gun, and is good to learn on. Mine is capable of excellent accuracy. If you have it in a .270 you'll practice more [because of less expensive ammo, and gentle recoil] and you'll become an amazing shot.
But, to each his own. Just be safe!
