SVT 40 all black

His gun his choice...its a $300 gun (SVT-40)...you guys want to "protect a piece of history" go buy one and leave it stock yourself. And really...how many SKS are there? People are not cutting them down left right and centre like they did with all the guns after WWII, they paint them...so at more you gotta replace some wood. Is your $200 gun gonna be worth a whole $350 in 10 years? Maybe? and if so who cares...just have fun with it...

LMFAO!!!...pretty much. ANYTHING that was used yesterday is "tech" history. Should I keep my first t-shirt I ####ed a chick in cause its history or should I just toss it out?
 
Im sure SVT40s and SKS will keep coming in by the time I'm 70 and still shooting it. Dont worry guys! I have a solution, Ill buy two! One to keep for the historical importance for my grandkids, and then paint the other.

@ the guy with the tact-cool comment.

Not painting it for a tactical look lol, more like I hate the ####ty metal look it has on it, I prefer a great look black to go with the wood. (may even paint over the wood)

Umm, your missing the point that the SVT's have not been made since about the 40's, and the SKS's (russian) since 1954.

If you want to bubba your rifle, go ahead, nothing gives us the right to tell you what to do with your rifle, just don't come on here expecting "Ohh sweet, looks way better" or "what a cool rifle!"

Even the folks in the Red rifle forum know an SKS is common, and SVT is pretty rare in comparison.
 
Are you painting a SKS with a black painted bolt?... I seen a really rough one at a local store where the finish was flaking off just from pulling the bolt back.

Also X2 on the above post...why change an SVT40, Get a black tactical rifle if that is what you want.

Seriously though, it is your rifle, do what you want with it. That being said, anytime I've ever "modified" anything other than the trigger on my 10/22 I have regretted it. Almost all my guns stay the way they came from the factory now, other than functional mods like trigger jobs.

There is absolutely no value in buggering with military surplus guns. Their value comes from the fact that they're historical objects. You #### with it, you destroy it. Plus black paint chips, wears down and looks like cr@p. I usually buy painted guns from people who thought it looked good and then found out no one liked it or would buy it. I get a deal, restore them, and sell them at a profit. Their stupidity = my gain.


So, actually, paint one of your guns and then sell it to me for 1/3 of the original price. I'll do you a favour and pay for the shipping ;)
 
It's cute watching you guys tell someone what to do with his property. And then think there's a hope in hell he'll do what you want. He owns it and he can paint it pink for all you can do about it. Go buy some yourself and keep them in perfect preservation if you feel that strongly. This forum should be listed as reference material next to the definition of a "fudd"

Unhunh. Somepeople have a wierd sense that history means cosmetic consistency, and will winge about people doing such things, but keep right on shooting thier rifles, wearing down the rifleing, making it dirty, pitting the bolt face etc and thats ok... go figure.
 
Nobody has told anyone that they have to do anything. The people in this forum who are passionate about these older firearms, are just asking that respect be paid to a rifle that has some historical significance.
 
Use BBQ heat-resistant paint, gives that nice matt-finish look. Anywhere you find rust, touch it up with tremclad. If you really want the fancy look pick up a touch-up stick from a car dealership and/or use nail polish. Either choice offers superior colour selection and ample amounts of product for future touch-ups at a fantastically low price! :D

Obviously you have no idea what the term "fudd" means. We are simply encouraging that he not ruin the value of this firearm, both monetary and hostorical. Bubba'ing a milsurp is not a good thing. If you must, go play with a norinco SKS in your basement and do all the stupid #### to it you want. If you have seen some of the heartbreaking bubba jobs that many of us have, then you will realize why we dicourage it.

If you want a cool looking rifle, then why not go out and buy one that is the way you want it, right out of the box?

What you propose to do makes no sense. The only thing you are doing by painting a rifle like an SVT is halving the value of the rifle. When the paint begins to flake off, it will look like crap. So in the end you will have accomplished nothing.

If you want to modify the rifle, at least do a proper job. Re-blue it, or if bluing isn't your thing, why not parkerize it? You won't find much support for that kind of thing here, but a proper job will make a useful and functional rifle last for decades. Then again, after spending all the cash altering a historical firearm, only to reduce the value... you would probably have been better off buying a Norinco M-14 and tinkering with that. Ammo is more widley available and they lend themselves to tinkering.

Just a humble suggestion.
 
Why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch over some paint, and the guy who chopped up his SVT-40 to look like an SVD Dragunov got nothing but praise?

For the record, I don't care what anyone does to their own guns.

Assuming you (we) are willing to disregard history...(plum coloured bolts??)..

Blasted n' parker(sp?)ised metal, in a dark stock, will reduce value but look, oh so nice...

I've seen episodes of "pimp my ride" and, nearly cried...honestly, I haven't owned a single one of those cars! If I did, I'd be happy mine now was 1/###x,###x more rare!

Thats not the point. Why dont we take an all original '56 corvette and put 19" chrome sprinner rims, neon, a fartcan and a canadian tire body kit on it, and spray paint on some flames too. Youd never see another one just like it! But thats probably because its an abomination and youve just ruined any collector or resale value.
