any luck with cheap scopes and mounts for m-14?

i've read the sticky on m14 scope mounts. i wonder if anyone has had any success with the less expensive aluminum, e.g. leapers, mounts and cheap scopes ( nc star, leapers, low end bushnell)

any recomendations? i would like to spend max $450 on the whole scope and mount issue

the leatherwood/hi lux mount from wolverine looks promising. all steel at least.
 
Don't go cheap on the mount, trust me on this one. Cutting corners only will cost you more in aspirins. Ask me how I know! BTDT... finally settled on the $ 200 ARMS18, even if Skullboy loves the Smith 2024 version!

Then save your sheckels for some good/decent glass afterwards. Better yet, quit smoking and/or drinking and soon you will be able to buy some Nightforce, Sightron, Vortex, Leupold Mark4, and others before you know it. :D

Hope this helps.... just don't go cheap unless you are a (very/extremely, saintly) patient person. ;)

There's a good rule of thumb that says pay at least as much for your scope as you do for your rifle-if you want it to work. I've seen this proven a number of times when other folks el-cheapo scopes and mounts went poof in a hunting situation.
 
NC Star Here

I mounted an NC Star on mine. Brand new, outta the box. These are not what I would call high quality by means, but it IS solid. I had to make a special shim for it and had to really check and double check measurements and be meticulous with the bore sighting to ensure it is mounted correctly. I have not taken it to the range yet, but am very confident that all is well.

Anything with a mil dot or hash mark reticle and target turrets in that price range that will take the beating of an m14?

yes i saw your thread. looks like nice work. very interested to see how it holds up with the heavier scope. and the fact that your new scope is quality (vortex in your pics) should make it easy to attribute any problems to the mounting system.

keep us posted!
 
Arms mount redfield 2-7 with accumark reticle love this set up on mine. My personal opinion that the 2-7 is a better power range for this rifle but depends what u want to use the rifle for mine is for everything from 25 to (hopefully) 500 added bonus redfield has lifetime coverage from luepold.
 
For under $450, you can get a pretty nice set-up. First off, the best price of a mount is the ARMS #18 mount. Then you can get Vortex Strikefire, if your not looking for much magnification.

If your looking for a more of a tactical style sniper scope, then use the ARMS#18 mount again, with a 10x tactical Bushnell 3200 Mil Dot scope, with turrets. That package will give you something pretty similar to what the US army uses on there M14 rifles.

If your looking for a more of a hunting style rig, then I would still use the ARMS#18 mount (cheapest, good mount), with a Busnell 3200 3x9x40, or a Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 or either one of those scope in 2x7x40 magnification.

If you were looking for something that you could use for some really long range, and still stay within your budget, then use the ARMS#18 mount with bushnell Trophy XLT 4x12x40 scope.

If it was me personally, I would mount ARMS#18 with a Bushnell 3200 2x7x40 because that way when you leave the scope down at 2x magnification, you can take a quick shot on something that is up close, and if you are trying to hit a target that is 200+ yards away, the 7x power, is enought to take a good shot on something pretty far away.
 
I bought a Dlask arms aluminum mount for my m14 at a gun show about 8 or 9 years ago.. paid 60 bucks for it.. it has one screw only, nothing attached to the stripper clip guide..

i put a bushnell trophy 3-9X40 with a mildot reticle on it.. around 160 bucks new.. it was gonna be temporary until i could find something better.. 9 years later.. still on there and holds zero perfectly.. good enough to hunt deer with it every year, and still shoot a ton of targets with no problems.
 
If you look around you'll find a 3rd generation Springfield mount for a reasonable price, I paid $100. I have a Smith I paid considerably more for. As for scopes I have 3 Bushnell 3200 10X mildots and paid $300 new for the first one and $60 used like new for the last.

After taking a marksmanship training course I think all scopes should have target turrets. The Bushnell does. The price is reasonable and the scope rugged because it is simple. No variable power is the reason. For target shooting 100 yds and beyond that's fine.

And spend a few bucks on rings, TPS or Leupold M4. Just paid $40 for a set of M4 rings out of US, $5 to ship.

So $100 for mount, $40 for rings, $60 for scope. Hows that? If you assemble your gear over time you can do it reasonably cheap.
 
Can go cheap on the scope like say a Hi-Lux 1x4 CMR and others but DON'T go cheap on the mount. You will curse yourself.

B.C. Tactical was thinking about producing 1 but to many people on here said there was no need. I also wish that NEA would take up the cause but no dice as of yet. There is 1 other Canadian company but I would rather save my money then flushing it down the toliet on that 1.
The ARMS #18 mount can be baught directly from there web site if you want a savings and also the UTG mount is quite good if you don't mind that it comes from China like me :D
