Just wondering the garand is allow for 8 rds in the mag but other rifles don't? Could I go hunting with it ?

Hunting regs fall under provincial law, so as long as your province does not have any law stating you can't hunt with magazines over 5 rounds, your good to go.

If you have an Enfield, you can bring 10 tries at Bambi and his kin...

Depending on how good a shot you are and how co-operative the deer is you could get a 10 shot exposure.;) Many yrs ago I remember seeing a nice buck get pushed out of the bush and head straight for a guy standing on the road. He started cranking the old No4 and did get a mag-full away before the deer crossed the road 20 yds in front of him at which point he was dry. He reloaded and had another "mad minute" cranking away at the east end of the deer as it headed west into the next piece of bush. The only things that got hurt in the process were his shoulder, some dirt, and his pride.

Why didn't the law require pinning of garand and enfield or down right prohib them( since garand is pretty much useless without the clip and sorta unpinable) ,when they hold more than 5 rds. They were the original a-salt riflies.

I wouldn't try too much to interpret the bureaucratic "logic" behind all of this. Just be happy that they are what they are.:)

Because once in a blue moon the powers that be actually listened to the voice of reason(and firearms owners) and realized that an exception had to be made for the venerable Garand.

Well the enfield did not get pinned because it is a manual action (bolt action) not a semi. therefore there is no restriction on how many the mag can hold.

The Garand i have no clue.

I don't know why I see so often people comparing enfield mags to garand mags. Ones a bolt and ones a semi, totally different beasts.

I guess this is the point when someone has to say that there are very, very rare Enfields that were built as semi-auto, most of them in museums now. Because of the very few semi Enfields all the Enfield mags would have needed to be pinned. That would have been utterly retarded, so an exception was made. That is why the Enfield is mentionned in the same regulation as the Garand.

You can convert a 8 round m1 Garand clip to 5 rounds buy welding a square nut to the clip....NRA manual....
