Hey Guys

I severely injured my right shoulder recently and have since decided to trade my stevens 200 in 22-250 for a low recoil, accurate rimfire for summer hunts.

I already own a 597 in 22LR, and a 9317GV in 17HMR so I want another something different. Either a 22LR, 22Mag or 17Mach2 bolt action rifle.

I am doing some research to see if people still shoot the 17 Mach 2. There hasn't been much talk of them on CGN lately. I've always heard great things about accuracy, and ammo used to be priced on par with good 22 mag.

Is ammo widely avaliable where you are the country? Are prices still about $10 per 50? Do you think they are still popular or common? Would you buy one or did you sell yours and Why?

Still here and still shooting it. It is a laser. I bought a four boxes last week at Bass Pro for $8.99 each. They have had it in stock every time I have gone there. I have also bought rounds at Gobles in London. One of my favourite rifles. Get one.

Hard to say-I only own 6 and it's all i use during gopher season/etc-this was the one i did up for the father-in-law-he liked the round so much he has 2 rifles in this caliber also.I have them Marlin SS+Blued-Savage regular bbl/heavy with accutrigger and SS heavy bbl-and H&R Sporter. Ammo not always the easiest to find but it's worth it. Usually around $8/50 rds

17 hm2

I just bought a carton of 17 HM2 today. It is not as common to find as 17 HMR, but then again, it is only half the price. A very accurate round for Gophers....I love it.

Hey BruceCorpral

I love my Savage HMR, Do you like your Marlins any better than your Savages? I like that Marlins come with 2 different mags, I like the accutrigger too.

Do you notice any difference between heavy and sporter barrels? Barrel heat? Is the crown different?

I have two 17Mach2 rifles, and they are my favorites for gopher shooting. Clay at Prophet River brings in a few hundred thousand rounds of ammunition every spring. His prices are around $7 per box or even less.

I like the savage triggers better-especially the accutrigger but the marlins shoot just as well-they're all pretty much lasers but the H&R especially so-with it's heavy barrel i can wing gophers out to 130-140M with my 4x12 dialed up to higher power. The barrels never really heat up that much on them-the only diff between the sporter and heavy barrels that i've found is just when you're walking around you notice the weight diff a little bit-no biggie as our svc rifles weigh more. I like them best during spring and the later part of the summer when you pick a favorite hillside and drop gophers from far enough away they don't know what's happenin!

A number of friends/family have tried my hm2's. About half of them really get into it while the others are happy to stick to .22 long rifle.
The ballistic charts, the cost of ammo and the reported accuracy were enough to convince me it brings something new to the table. Rifles are the hardest to come by, the ammo is available in any qty you want, so many of us have already stocked up.
The only negative to this round is that the barrel needs to be cleaned more often than a .22, like every 50 rnds. I just take a bore snake along when I go out.
I suggest you try one outm

I have been looking and can't seem to find any Mach 2s.

Which dealer? Is the trigger still decent on the early model? Adjustable? $200 with blued heavy barrel and a wood/lam stock would be ideal Maybe I could trade for a 17 and 22 aswell!

I was thinking about a 10/22 but I would rather buy a $300 bolt rifle even in 22LR.

Though it is capable of being equally accurate it probably takes $500 by the time you get a rifle, barrel, VQ internal parts. I have the 597 for an auto-plinker.

The GunMart Brockville Ontario

He has the regular barrel synthetic and the heavy barrel synthetic

As of Saturday he had 10 regular and 9 synthetic

Dont quote me but I think its $200 taxes in.

With a barrel and heavy bolt handle you can mod a 10/22 into an accurate semi-auto in HM2...

That barrel looks familiar;), hope it is shooting well for you.
I was talking to Clay at Prophet River today, and he has access to three more used 17Mach2 rifles, a CZ452, a ruger 77/17, and a Savage or Marlin.

I now have 3 MachII's (thanks Bruce :)

I have a 10-22 conversion (wickedly accurate...), a Marlin autoloader (very accurate) and a new Savage LH HB MkII (haven't shot it yet...).

I love this round, haven't had any trouble finding ammo. I bought two cases from Clay (SakoAlberta) last year for a great price. It's nasty on gophers, have even taken an unplanned coyote with it without any issues. I have rimfires in all the major calibers (.22, .22WMR, both .17's) and this one is my fave.

I will never tire of the M2-even though it's hard to get people over the HMR-they just have to shoot it to believe it. I might have to phone ontario to pick up a spare rifle for $200...
