Worth buying reloading components online ?

I am new to reloading, looking for the best deals I can find, because the more I save = the more I can shoot. I have been looking for the best deals I can find locally, as well as looking at some of the prices online, from from some of the dealers, here on CGN.

Is it really worth buying online and paying the extra money for shipping, or do most of you guys buy locally, because its cheaper that way ?

If you guys buy online, what place is known for being the cheapest around ?

If someone has a "secret" they want to PM me for the cheapest place to buy from, I'm all ears.
 
depends on what you are shopping for

Bullets and brass: are components you have to buy from this side of the border, my go to is Mystic Precision and will soon try Henry Nielcho

Powder and primers: Also imperative to buy from Canadian dealers, I have had good luck with local dealers. Higginson powders is the favorite here, great inventory and prices

Press and dies: Mostly stateside, I had good deals with Cabelas USA, Sinclair Intl, NatchezSS (they have the best price on the market for the RCBS chargemaster combo) and Mystic Precision if I am prepping a multi items order (i.e. dies brass and bullets).

Cabelas Canada has the best deal on a tumbler kit

Odds and ends from Wholesale sports, and they have good prices on some bullets (even though their website can sometime be frustrating (it doesn't load all bullet weights)) and their shipping charges are based on price, not weight ;)

I bought my Dillon from CRAFM and I realize now with the drawback it sure wasn't the best price around, had I shopped a bit I would've saved over 100$ So be sure to check with different dealers before you make a decision
 
I just bought a press from arc-inter (just google the name). I saved $80 on a Hornady LNL ap. plus with them it is just a straight $12 shipping charge. i bought a press, tumbler, dies, and other odds and ends. they came in 3 good size boxes. all for $12. plus they were paying the tax in January. I was really pleased with them.
 
I buy stuff online quite regularly. I try to be loyal to local business, but it seems that many places of business make decisions that limit their inventory. I'm ok with this but these outlets must consider the cost of lost sales due to not having product inventory. If I walk into a local store and they do not have the product I'm asking for, I've made that purchase from another vendor or online dealer by the time the sun goes down. No product equals lost business.

Powder and primers gets pricey to ship, so stock up when you can. The rest comes online and shipped to the door in several business days.
 
Bullets, primers, and powder is what I meant. Presses are much cheaper online. I cant find any deals online for bullets, powder, and primers that rival local dealers
 
The problem with bullets is they are heavy and can be expensive to ship
Brass can take up a lot of space and add to shipping price
Powder and Primers have to go by courier with extra fees for hazmat

Unless you're buying enough to get free shipping like Higginson powders does the primers and powder are likely cheaper locally. Some of the online places are very competitive on their bullets and brass and can get stuff the local shop doesnt care to order or stock.
 
I have always found that the people running shops pay the same prices no matter where they are at. Henry pays $20 for X bullets, so, too, does Jerry, so does the local guy (if he has it). Since they all pay the same, they all charge the same or similar. Therefore, when I am in Edmonton, I just get what I want where they have it.
It makes no sense to me to try to support an online sponsor when I have to go to Edmonton once a month anyway. Buy from online=pay extra for shipping. Buy in Edmonton=I am already there.
Now, that being said, I am not railing at the sponsors here. Their prices are what they are and they need to make a dollar as well. I just can't justify paying $10 extra just to get a box of bullets shipped from BC or ON.
I buy from the least expensive place I can, and my local guy is gradually building his stock.
I tend to save my pennies and if that means that a bulk buy from a site sponsor is better, then that is where I'll go.
But, as far as I can tell, OP, there are no deals to be had on line for components. Only a chance to save a little in a bulk buy that gets eaten up by shipping charges.
 
Sometimes its not always about price. If the local stores simply don't have what you want, you either wait or get it online. Bullets are a classic example, if you need something that is not on the top ten chart, you often have to look elsewhere. I ordered a bunch of items from Mystic Precision yesterday because the local dealers simply don't have, don't carry, or are waiting for their orders to arrive. I paid 25 bucks for shipping on several hundred dollars worth of components. Not a big deal considering there is no local inventory.

The show must go on. I'm loading what I want and when I want regardless of local inventory. Online shopping is great. If local shops choose to keep items in stock, I would buy from them first.
 
if you find good deals from an online dealer and order in bulk, the shipping cost can become negligible.

for instance ordering berry's bullets from one of the dealers, which should come to par or below what you can get plated bullets in ontario for.

havent seen better deals on pistol primers then at leBarons, same with some types of powder
 
Lebaron's is the cheapest place that I have scene primers, powder, and rifle bullets. I have found a place in Hamilton that has really cheap 9mm copper plated. Aimprojectiles 9mm start at $94/1000, and that is really cheap compared to other places online. I live about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Lebaron's, but its worth it to me to spend the extra $30 in fuel to drive out there if I am planning on spending more than $100 on supplies, because they are really about 25% or more cheaper than my local shop down the road.

You are in Alberta, the make-sense province, where gun related items' prices are ok

I am in Quebec, where taxes are ridiculous and stuff is over priced everywhere. For me, choosing between an item (with the same price tag) here or one from the west coast, I have to go west coast simply because shipping is probably much cheaper than taxes (not to mention stuff I need is rarely available)
 
It's usually less expensive to buy locally and save the shipping costs in my experieice. In reality though, some components are only available by mailorder and shipping costs are the price we pay for living in a sparsely populated country.
 
Remember to take your gas money into account if driving to a store, its often the same as shipping costs for online. And there is also your time.
 
I like to support the local little guy, but if they do not have what I am looking for I have to get it elsewhere. As above, you have to take the high price of gas into consideration.
My problem is I like to browse through the stores any chance I can get.
On Saturday, I went to 4 gun stores to get what I was looking for. Had to buy something in every store, it is a requirement.
When I can not find what I am looking for, there are a lot of great dealers on here that I have dealt with myself. If you know your prices, online purchases with shipping can be cheaper when considering travel costs and lack of products locally.
