Soooo... on my way out to my shop Bubba attacked me and grabbed my AR upper receiver. Before I could get it back he did this to it!

I don't think I'm ever gonna use it for .223/5.56 ever again but was wondering if I can get it straightened up and welded would it be ok for a 9mm upper? If not .22lr it is.

It's my understanding that 7075 aluminum is very difficult to weld. I'd junk it and get a new one.

For real though, what happened to it?

I refuse to answer that question on the ground that it may make me look like a complete A$$hat!... I mean make Bubba look like an a$$hat...

I do plan to replace it with a new one but was wondering if a "fixed" one would hold up to a 9mm. If not I'll just build a dedicated .22lr upper with it. I was going to get one anyway.

I don't know how you're going to weld that aluminium but if you do manage to straighten her out and make a build please post photos.

I'd stick to the .22lr if I were you.

Anodized is even harder as it is electricly non conductive and then like all heat treatable aluminums it needs to be heat treated or it will just crack on either side of the weld. Then you need to strip and re anodize. I think buying a new one would be less than 25% the cost of having me fix it.

That said send it to me and I will fix it and send it back good as new for $300.
You will never see the welds.

Ummm...well thanks for the offer but being a Norinco upper I think I'll pass. :)

Any opinions on the Aero Precision Uppers? They are inexpensive but I'd rather not replace "cheap" with "cheap".

Their is nothing wrong with the quality of either. Don't abuse them and they'll work fine.
