I've got 2 new guns ordered, Savage LRPV in 223 & Remington 700 milspec in 308 & trying to pick best scopes for target & limited hunting. Getting frustrated reading about sightron & nightforce scopes & can't find anywhere in Ontario & not interseted in spending that kind of money on something I've never seen or held in my hands.
I'm not saying I would buy either of these scopes but I may if I could compare to other scopes I have looked @,

The most used scopes I have seen Fclass shooting is the Nightforce,on plus side they have proven record on tracking, they have very sharp and clear optics, cons on Nightforce the benchrest model only shows 6min on turrets, and there very heavy steel tube over two lbs.
Sightron that I have shot. glass is excellent, for me the Nightforce might edge out the Sightron but by very very little, nice side focus for paralex, scope is much lighter.
Cons will they track as good as Nightforce maybe they will but time will tell
hands down the Sightron has much better priced point.

I may I might have the wish I wish tonight. 4 Nightforce dealers in Canada. You're either gonna have to suck it up and buy one sight unseen or find one at the range. If the statement "the best and most reliable optics for tactical and competition and long range shooting" means something to you then buy Nightforce. I just bought one sight unseen. If you don't like it, good luck liking anything else that doesn't cost 4 times what your rifles did.

If you want a hunting scope look at the Zeiss Conquest, but they don't have the specs for target shooting, you can only get up to 20X on them. For the bench , the two you mention are good, Weaver is another to look at bang/buck options.

There I fixed it for you so it is now correct

Hard to beat NF for repeatability and clarity, that being said the Sightrons glass is very good as well, their turrets are not quite as positive as the NF has but still very repeatable..
Once the Sightrons new reticle selection starts to show up, the decision will be harder as that is where they are lacking at the moment

Given the sales in 2010 in NA, I think you will find alot of Sightron scopes on the F class line especially in the US.

As for tracking, I spent alot of time testing them before I was a dealer or there was anyone selling them in Canada. Their tracking is absolutely SUPERB.

If you are interested in seeing and testing a Sightron, I may be able to help.

I was lucky enough to handle and compare most of the Nightforce, and Sightron scopes at a local dealer's.
I bought one of each. The Nightforce is more heavily constructed (possibly over built for range work), and more expensive.
I am very pleased with both.

I just bought one of these, will compare it to my Sightron when I get it at the end of next week but I figured the extra $300 for a Nightroce might be worth it

i found my NF optics had some color fringing on contrasty targets. My Sightron had visibly better optics in my opinion. The NF seems a lot more solid, and i prefer the way the turrets feel. That said, I am definitely getting Sightron for my next 2 scopes. I am sold on the glass. And the price point. Once the new MOA reticles are in, the CC is coming out.

You didn't buy a scope with open turrets for your savage? The one above seems more like a hunting scope no? Not criticizing you, just curious. Also it's too bad they wouldn't use the side parallax for adjustment.. I'm a fan of Nightforce but only in the NXS line.

So why did you not like your Vortex anyway? You can PM me if you want so we don't hijack...

That and I am actually not a fan of side focus, I find AO easier to make finer adjustments. The glass quality is better that way too because it eliminates another piece of glass before the objective lens. Most who own the Nightforce BR series say the glass is better than the NXS series and lack of side focus is the reason.
