Bringing a 5.56-marked AR in the US for a training course - possible?

Filling out a DSP-83 and getting approved is not a major issue -- yes its $250 (if its approved), but in the grand scheme of things, its better to be safe, than be sorry.

Fairly painless I agree, I just completed the process for the Glock armorer's course in the US.

I am now moving on to the US Training Center as I have just made a good contact there. However getting a TTA(Technical Training Agreement) will be a "horse of a different color" They are engaged though, and there approach is much better than when it was Blackwater.BTW they don't like it when you call them "Blackwater" LOL must be some "old baggage" there?

other than being potentially not allowed back in the US and your weapons seized

Tread carefully here the US Customs Border Protection has a long memory.Govern yourself accordingly.

Dude even USTC is picky, each time I go, I need to send copies of my Gren Card and Passport proving I exist down here officially.
BW has a lot of baggage with export violations, and they need to be very careful.

They don't treat there Permanent Residents as well as we do LOL
Getting refused from the US can cause lots of "inconvenience" in the future.Once your documented, going in and out is not as easy.
Most times folks forget after a few years, but the CBP don't and if your returning from vacation it can be quite a surprise.

Is this the Tax Commission?

Why are people trying to needle #### a Chinese gun into the US for "training"? If you are going to invest that kind of money in training don't you think you should maybe invest in quality firearms? Seriously. ####.

You don't have to spend $2000 to get a north american/europe made AR in the first place.

If the Americans don't want you to bring Chinese into the country then live with it.

I agree that anyone taking the courses other than arm chair commandoes don't worry about the cost of the equipment that will be keeping them alive and they don't have a problem getting certification to take the courses. Shooting paper in Canada has absolutely nothing to do with dangerous people coming after you in Peru, Columbia or Afghanistan and Iraq.

In the end, it makes most sense to me to buy a North American made AR with a 16" barrel. That way, I'm most likely to be allowed to bring it into the US for some training or a competition.

As for it being marked, "5.56mm", I think it won't really matter based on what's been said already. Importing a "military" caliber rifle to the US is ok provided it's for a temporary period. However, exporting one is prohibited however which explains AR's marked ".223" being sold up here.

Cheers,

Hopefully you don't get sent in for a secondary exam

Funny you should say that..
The first time I hit customs I had to
"follow the green line through the doors..."
When I got to the doors they opened and I walked in to see
Apoo, Yusfa and Rangeet sitting on a bench sweating buckets.
I walked in with a big ol grin (b/c I was good to go)
and asked them if they were off to Guantanamo bay?
The two US customs guys could'nt stop laughing.
Good ice breaker!

Toxic,

What did you list that you expect to be denied? Norc?

All right my form 6 is back. It was processed in 3 weeks but there was a screw up with faxing - when I called today they fazed it. All firearms and ammo were approved except the Russian SKS. I was rejected for the same reasons the Chinese stuff gets rejected.
