Just picked up an H&R Handi-Light Compact to use as a truck / back up rifle, as a "loaner" for buddies and for my petit wife who will be joining me this year on deer hunts. I'll use it for Mule deer hunting when I want to go light instead of packing the 30-06 and maybe for coyotes as the situation presents itself.
So, lots of different uses.
Anyone have any favourite ammo they use that works for them ?
I'm intending on buying a bunch of different brands, weights, etc. to see what works and what doesn't.
Thanks. :)

I used to use Federal blue box stuff since it was pretty cheap, worked just fine. The Winchester round mentioned would probably be a bit better penetrating on big mulies though.

EDIT: I also tried the 95 grain Ballistic Tip, works well also.

did some tests with the Ballistic Tips and at 3,100 ft pr.sec . they dont hold up too well when they hit bones [fragment very easy] good on paper punching but not well suited for hunting ..

don't ask me why i know ...

I have one too. I recommend carrying a screw together cleaning rod with you to knock out spent casings that sometimes won't eject. YMMV
