Hello All,
I am not a firearm owner, nor do I have a PAL/RPAL.

My father is planning on visiting Toronto this summer. He has been a registered firearm owner (long gun and handgun) for more than 50 years back in the Caribbean.

I was wondering, is there a place I can take him so that he can legally (not that I would expect any of you fine gentlemen to say otherwise) try out some "exotic" firearms?

Welcome
Since I assume your dad won't be bringing his firearms and you don't own any your only option around the GTA would be Target Sports.

Guests are accepted at Target Sports (Handgun + Rimfire)
Guests are also accepted at Silverdale near Hamilton (Anything)

I imagine he doesn't have his canadian license, so not much out there for him, he can rent some club guns but its expensive and there abused firearms.

Also Canada doesn't have exotic firearms :) You want the USA (Vegas) for that!

My apologies for necro-posting, but its been a while. Are target sports and siverdale still the only two places in the GTA?

Try Burlington range as well, plus there's a revolver club by richmond hill, don't remember the name though. There's also one by Elgin if that interests you (eesa).

chronic would you post in other thread too to get your count up and is your father still looking to shoot a year later now. Target is good and then he could try Burlington/Silverdale but can't say any thing bout exotic - Biggs

Burlington is very overcrowded. Tried to get in there, no thank you. Poor communication, very poor.
Range officers will be staring at your every move. DON'T FLINCH!

Silverdale is the best range I have been to so far.
Very friendly and helpful people. Feels like I am at my uncle's gun range there.
Bottom line is, you don't screw around and nobody bothers you. They even come and help you out to set up your scopes, help with your shooting postures, aiming, etc., and it's all for free.

Enough said!
Go to Silverdale you won't be sorry, if you need by now. Year later.

Enjoy,
Kris

Silverdale is not really in the GTA though. It is close to St Catherines and Niagara Falls. If you want to try out guns at Silverdale, you have to make an appointment, and the last I heard, there is a long wait.

Go to Silverdale, you'll get raped at target sports, they'll charge you $40 per person just to walk in + another $40 just to shoot a few rounds downrange...by the time you leave your wallet will be $300 lighter

I've joined Burlington without any problems, most of the time I have gone there were no, or just a few people shooting, people are friendly and I have never had any problems with any RO's givinge #### or bothering me, and everyone has been helpful.

The only people that probably don't fit in at Burlington and have problems would be mall ninjas. At the end of the day if you know how to follow rules, Burlington is a great club.

I had very much a similar experience at Silverdale.

I took my 71 year old dad on an outing there last month. (I didn't fire a single shot though)

It was short notice and they got me an appointment in two days. YMMV as the ROs are volunteers.

He shot .50BMG, the .50 Desert Eagle, S&W 500, .223 M4, a SKS, .45 1911 and a .45 S&W M&P.

He was stoked for weeks after.

But what made it a truly amazing experience was the guys at Silverdale.

Seriously, they treated my dad like he was theirs.

Truly awesome guys.
