Marlin 795

My scope isn't that heavy, although there is a picatiny rail in the us that you can buy for it...i was thinking of getting one eventually

I had the same problem with the rail. Traditional scope rings will have problems. I bought this and it works like a charm. Scope is solid and doesnt walk.

The points of contact are huge and there are three alan key screws to tighten them. There is one set screw that you will need to remove because this is designed for air rifles that have a small grove on the top of the rifle where the set screw goes down into, to prevent the scope from walking forward (not backward). Its no big deal though. Just unscrew the set screw from the top and youre good to go. I havent touched the scope on my marlin since and it is still zeroed.

You can forget about using the irons while the scope is on though.

looking at this can anyone chime in on their experience with it? who has the best price currently that you have seen?

I have savage mkII and marlin795 marlin shoots much better. It loves blazer ammo. I cut the plastic stock because it was too long for me.

I have a savage MKII and a marlin 795ss and they both shoot wonderfully. they are both wonderful guns.

from what I seen and read all seems good people are happy so i took a chance. the price was right for my needs, under $200 shipped from reliable gun. I will give you my personal impressions as soon as it gets here. :D

Hey JD
Let us know your opinions on this one. I'm leaning really hard toward this for my boy and I. Heard lost of good things, but impressions from a new owner would be nice to hear....
thx

I have a Marlin 70PSS and I love the crap out of it. It's a lighter, quick takedown 795.

I want two 795s and possibly another 70PSS in the future.

I plan on grabbing one of these once my PAL application comes through. I was just wondering about a few things. THe first was if anyone knew what rings would fit this and about the creeping issues, I might look at that mount posted earlier. Would a harris bipod fit on one of these or would I need to get an adaptor, and which one? The last is that I've been looking for a spare magazine or two but can't seem to find them anywhere, any suggestions?

for my my local wholesale sports has a crapload of them, so i would assume you could order some off their website, I have a set of crummy bushnell rings that work just fine and haven't moved a bit. and as for teh bipod i haven't a clue if the harris one would fit, but i would assume that any bipod that fits on a sling swivel would work just fine.

I've got one - now

Just got my PAL and had to get my hands on a 795ss.
Have to say I'm very happy with my new toy!!

The gun is light, but feels solid.

The bolt lock is really easy to operate and far better than any 10/22 I've used (sorry Ruger fans) which is a real plus for the young lad as he'll be using it as much as I will.

We'll be trying her ot this weekend (I hope I hope)

Have been looking for a short fast handling semi .22 for some time.Based on my research,talking to other rimfire owners and visiting many websites I decided to buy a blued synth stocked Marlin 795.Because there was still snow on the ground I decided to tear it down and start doing some detail work on it ie; removing burrs,polishing the bolt and other bearing surfaces and generally just checking it out.One thing I noticed right away was how tight the mags fit in the well.I did some polishing and fitting in that area.It's better but still not ideal.I'd like the mags to drop free but that could cause feeding issues.
The trigger is another place that could stand improvement.I noticed that as you squeeze the trigger,the hammer moves back slightly before it finally breaks and it is on the heavy side.Later for that.
I also noticed that the forearm touched the barrel in a couple of places so I did some relieving with a Dremel.
I bought a cheap 3-9x32 WA/AO scope for it made by Simmons that includes mounts.
Anyway,the snow is finally gone from my range and I tested it out yesterday.I had some old ammo from 20 years ago and bought some new stuff to try including CCI minimags,Federal champion,Remington game load,American Eagle.All copper wash hollow points.I had heard Marlins don't like lead.
Range report;
Fired at 25yds.9X setting on scope(after sight in).
5 shot groups using 4 mags(in rotation)
All groups measured outside dimensions.Vertical and horizontal.
High Velocity Hollow Point loads;
CCI minimags---one round hole.3/8" x3/8"
Federal Champion---one elongated hole.1/2" x 3/8".
Remington Game Loads---1/2" x 1/2"
American Eagle ---5/8" x 3/4"
PMC Preditor---1/2" x 5/8"
Winchester Super X---5/8" x 3/8"
Federal Hi power---3/4" x 1/2"
Remington Yellow Jackets---3/4" x 3/4"
Ruko Hp---1/4" x 3/8"
Armscor Precision---1" x 1/2"---5/8" x 1/2" without flyer
Lead bullet target loads;
Winchester T22---3/8" x 3/8"
American Eagle---5/8" x 3/8"
CCI Green Tag---5/8" x 7/16"

No failures to feed.No failures to eject.
One misfire with Winchester Super X and Remington Game Load.Will have to check that out.
Paper target was .22 sporting rifle competition target with 1" bullseye and a 3/8" dotted circle dead center.
All high velocity hollow points impacted very close to same spot on bullseye and as far as I'm concerned could be interchangeable without having to adjust scope.
Final Thoughts;
The scope did have a tendency to walk back towards my eye,even after tightening it down.I didn't want to crank on it.The gun is really light and recoil does have an effect.I think I'm going to try cutting some teeth into the scope mount claws with a dremel and see if that fixes it.
Shooting off hand I found the gun a tad too light to keep steady.Could try a bipod for weight or.....the stock is hollow so there's room to fill with something.Lead shot mixed with apoxy ?
Guys at the range looked at the targets and said "she's a keeper".I think so !
Anyway,hope this helps potential buyers.
Cheers.

BKL airgun scope mounts may work well:

There may be a few models to choose from if you browse their website. Some airgun place in BC sells these for decent pricing - just can't recall who it is.

EDIT:Here is a Canadian vendor with lots of choices for the Gamo style mount that Jimythetulip suggested.

i just bought a marlin 60 a couple months ago and it is great. same action and barrel as a 795 but tube fed instead. these are tack drivers, and imo way better than a 10/22. i plan on buying a 795 in the near future

I have 3 795's. Two stainless, one of which is in the box still and the blued which I put a wooden stock on.

This one has 21,500 rounds(+/-) through it in the 4 years i've had it. Recoil spring is the only thing that has been replaced. It really likes the federal 525 packs. Currently looking at getting the new D.I.P trigger for it and the shooters ridge 25rnd mag.

I've bought and sold many .22's the one that has stayed with me has been my 795, I love it to death, light, accurate, and has never given me any problems. It is one that I recommend to all beginners especially now that it's going for $140 at Le Baron.

Yep. It and the model 60 are the best .22 semis going! you don't see any barbi-doll loving ruger fans in this thread! lol
