45 Super Q's

Just about to embark on the journey that is 45 super. Anyone have any sources for loading info, or loads they can share (by PM if necessary). These are for my Glock 21sf, which will be wearing a 24lb Wolff spring (assuming they'll ship to canada).

Of course I realize being a non-saami cartridge comes with issues, the hodgdon reloading center info looks just barely to be above 45 +p if that. Some of the loads from handloads.com look sketchy at best, but closer to what I'm looking for. I'm not looking to tear holes in the space time continuum, but I really want that paper I'm shooting to know the difference. So long as I can approach 1100 with 230gr pills and 1300 with 185's I'll be pretty happy.

please tell me if you find brass, I havent found any 45super or 45+p brass in a year of searching, I could put a cash down of course but I don't want to, yet. In may of 2010 I contacted Douple Tap and he told me he would order some 45 super brass for me free of charge, he either forgot or it has not made it there yet...

Either way I am leaning more towards 45+p because apparently the grain structure is denser and capacity is inferior (heavier walls) whereas the 45super is a harder brass alloy from what I understand from Starline's website, these properties are more interesting for my application

I cannot contribute to your thread however other than saying yes wolff springs do ship, provided your order excesses 25$ IIRC

I've got the storm lake 4 port barrel, Brass from MysticPlayer, springs and guide rod from Wolff, all inbound. Now I just need to hit up the local shops and pray they have the powders I need. I'm looking at power pistol, HS-7 and AA-7, but I've got a list of alternatives, so we can play the "well, what do you have?" game that seems so fun to play at both Cabela's and Wholesale.

45 super captivates my imagination, 45 +p Just seems like it'd be a little better, but barely worth the effort. This is only my opinion. The 45 +P brass would likely last a lot longer though, the 45 super stuff, being pushed to the nuts, you'd likely want to retire early anyways. BTW, this is a great way to get around a Wife's, "No New Guns," edict

I think you may encounter reliability issues running a spring that heavy. Try one of Wolff's spring kit packages. It's wouldn't hurt to have the extra weights to experiment with. One bonus with using a Glock 21 is that it shouldn't have any problems handling a powerful cartridge like .45 Super.

I've already ordered, but I'll keep that in mind, if I have any difficulties getting loads to cycle.

The ONLY place that sells pre-setup 45 Super Guns, Ace customs, uses a 25 lb spring for it's Glock model, and 32 lb springs for the 1911 gunsmith fit kit. I was actually worried about being a bit light, I guess I'll know in a few weeks.

And the Glock 21 is as you state a very robust pistol, being readily able to take 10mm conversions, which run pressures substantially higher than 45 super.

What model of barrel do you use on your 10mm? Also, what weight spring do you like for the heavy stuff?

I was going back and forth between a ported barrel, or one threaded for a compensator, in the end I chose the 4 ports. This is just a cannon for at the range, so I don't have any concerns about the ported barrel, I never fire from low positions at the range, and if I ever want to use it for competition, I'll just the 45 auto anyways (no point handicapped myself more than my ability already does ).

I use Lone Wolf components for the most part, running a 20lbs spring for pretty much everything from mild to nuclear. I am finishing up a Long Slide G20 conversion, then I'll be converting a G21 SF to .45 Super. I'll shoot you a PM when I am finished to see what you have figured out.
