I've tried brownell's but they would not ship that outside US. So my only option is to get one in Canada. Where could I buy an adjustable gas plug for a garand in Canada?

I looked at Brownells, There are two types. Call them and ask who can be exported to Canada. Apparently, the homeland and paranoia dept need the manuf to be registered to export... Go figure. Are we not on the same side?

Try

MC CANN INDUSTRIES p/n 100-000-402 (Works well, I bought mine there..)

or

The new guy in town, IMHO

SCHUSTER ADJUSTABLE GAS SYSTEM p/n 100-001-733

BTW M 14 folks they have a version for the M 14???

I got my Shuster gas plug from Creedmoor Sports, along with match sights, love them. Did it over the web, got to my doorstep pretty fast, no hassles whatsoever.

I had one of these.

They basically are a gas plug with a threaded hole in the middle front. Then they take allen screws and drill different sized holes in them, just like carburetor jets, thread in the one you want.

Now, if someone wanted to make their own from an extra gas plug, just drill a 1/4" hole down the middle and tap it 1/4-20. Buy a few 1/4-20 allen screws about 1/2" long, drill tiny holes down the middle, try em.

Or just drill a tiny hole through the gas plug, and I mean really tiny, then upsize it in stages till the rifle works the way you want.

This is if you can't buy the McCann product somehow.

I think I'll pay a little extra and go with mc cann. At first I thought having extra screw valves could be annoying but then once I have it set for one type of ammo. I probably won't have to mess with it again. It wouldn't have an ugly set screws like the shuster plug does which gives the gun a cleaner look. Ill probably order the mcCann one .Hope it'll get here before the weekend so I could shoot my garand. I shot all my surplus stuff I picked up from a gun show. I still have 80 rds of factory hunting ammo at home but without a right gun to shoot them.

I hope you cleaned your rifle and well. That surplus ammo is mainly corrosive.

That's the best reason to get a McCann or Schuster...you can shoot modern, non corrosive ammo without hurting your rifle.

I was calling for another part today and asked about these gas plugs. Neither can be exported out of the USA, they are not permitted to ship them.

If you can get either of them in Canada (where is Creedmore?) then go for it. This US exporting thing is pretty hard to deal with.

Brownells would ship the mcCann version. At a lower than listed price too! It was listed for 40. I paid 35 with shipping and Tax or some kinda feed that they charge. Should be here before the weekend from experience.

Very good deal.

BTW, if you want to take all of the stress off your action, you can just leave the screw right out of the plug. The rifle will be a bolt action single shot with no pounding to the action.

What's the fun in shooting a garand without the ping ;)

I picked up my bubba Breda m1 at a gun show( some one decided to put some personal touch in a perfectly good GI stock f:P: and a chrome gas tube lock hence it's bubba status). The op rod on my gun seems to be a new replacement, along with some bits and pieces in the action.everything is SA stamped except for the barrel and receiver. My guess is the previous owner must have shot it with factory ammo and screw things up then replaced the damage parts with new Springfield goodies. I'm gonna un bubba my gun with a new Boyd stock

So why did they tell me they do not ship to Canada?

...being a Breda, it may matter a bit less than if it was a Winchester or Springfield. If it works and looks okay...

I'll get a SA garand one day. Price on a war time garand is just too crazy alto I dont think they will go down. Maybe I'll look for a SA receiver then swap all the parts over. this Breda will be a shooter.

I wonder if he mentioned he was in Canada?

They are shipping it to a Canada address so ya. They should know. I used to ordered many 1911 parts from brownell's. They ship to my door without problems. Some times I even ask for a discount to keep the bill under 100 so they could export. :)
