That thread about the 270 and grizzly bears got me thinking about alberta,s grizzly draw. I was on top of the heap for a tag, put in for all those years then they stop the draw, what about all those draw apps I paid for all those years? Are they going to start the draw and keep everyone at the priority at which they were at? Not a chance, we will never see a grizzly bear draw again in alberta, and myself and all the other hunters who had applied for all those years, I hope the money we donated did some good. I will be really pissed if the red cap draw goes the same way as the gizz draw

Not a silly question - I don't know either (unless it is a reference to the random draws for some species?).
To the OP, take solace in the face that the monies you paid MIGHT have actually done some good, in terms of conservation or whatnot.
In Alberta there is a special lottery and the prize is a "red cap" (a special hat).
If you win, you get to wear it and hunt any animal you wish, anywhere in the province.
Just teasing! That would be kind of cool though. Would raise a pile of money.
Red Cap Mountain is actually a sort of somewhat isolated little mountain range with bighorn sheep on it. It is in Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) 337.
The draw the OP is talking about is a special WMU337 sheep tag. I think they give out 3 or 5 tags a year and there are about 1 or 2 thousand hunters applying for them. Each year you do not get drawn you gain a year priority or a priority point.
The group of hunters who started applying in the first year and kept it up every year are in the top group and have a slim chance every year. If they live long enough they will eventually get drawn.

I applied for the Grizzly draw for about ten years. Just when I was thinking I was getting toward the top when my name should come up on the the next draw, they stopped it. Its reasonable they stopped the draw for the protection of the species, what bothers me is they took money in advance for events that they canceled. How about refunds?
