Any .25-20 Shooters out there?

B you sure its not a Marlin or Winchester, as if it is a Savage 1899 in 25-20, I think Savage would buy it back, as they are the only ones I know outside factory that have any of the early proto type Levers! These were built to see if the design would work out, then made at marlin into the first real big cartridges for deer/moose hunting. I hope you and Grams get back on the same page, as they are not around forever, take it from me, I lost all but one of my Grandparents in the last 7 years!

Take care my friend, Dale Z!

Well I must be mistaken, though I could swear it was a Savage 99. I will try to get a look when I go back home this Summer.

I find the 25-20 very accurate out to about 75 yds.In the Lyman manual the duplicate factory load is 86 gr jacketed fn with 10.5 grs IMR- 4198 for 1283 fps.

It wasn't the 25-20 it was the 32-20. Arthur Savages first prototype, and I highly doubt the gun is in the possesion of some guys grandmother in Canada. It was the one and only Savage lever made by Savage in 32-20.

I'm thinking it'll turn out to be a 25-35.

I used to have a Savage bolt action model 23B in 25-20 and sold it a couple years back. Still own a Savage 219 in 25-20, great little plinkers for around the camp.

Mad dog you are right ,the first proto type was a 320-20 in the Sav 1899, I was mistaken in the pistol calibre! But I had an article from the 1950-60's that discussed in detail these first proto types, can't remeber why they never made any in these handy little pistol calibre? I think you will be right that the gun is 25-35 Win calibre, forgot about those ones! Thanks for the reminder, Dale Z

MadDog any chance you might have some load data kicking around for your 219. My gun is very similar to the 219, I have a few cast bullet loads but nothing for jacket bullets.

been shooting a 92 for a year, took forever to find one, as most prices are out to lunch on a decent one. it has quickly become one of my favourite guns, and has been an interesting gun to load for, so far it only really likes H110 with a magnum primer. using a non-magnum primer sprays unburnt powder out the end, same story with H322.

I have a Marlin 27s pump in 25-20 ... take-down, with the octagon barrel. My Dad acquired several years ago from one of his neighbors, and sent it to me as birthday gift a few years before he passed away. I did research the DOM, but can't recall offhand when it was built - late teens, early 20s? I had the metalwork polished and re-blued, and I refinished the stock with multiple coats of tung oil. It looks great, but despite several determined efforts at cleaning up the bore, it still looks a bit rough. I've been reloading for it, and have used it for a bit of plinking ... no real "load" development though. Might be fun to zero it in as well as I can, and see if I'm capable of picking off a few gophers at short range with it this summer.

I have a Remington model 25 in 25-20, I use Hornady .257 flat point bullets in mine. I cant remember what powder I used. I will have to check on that.

I have a couple 92 SRC's, a Rem 25, and just purchased and 1894CL, great little farm/varmint cartridge, they all shoot good with the Bullet Barn or Hornadys, an overlooked and useful cartridge still today.
