Compact rifle in 22 WMR?

Well, I ordered this one from the Chemist, so I hope I made the short list.

Since they just started taking pre-orders this morning, I'm sure you will be fine. You wanted light and compact and that is what you've got.
With a 22LR going to 13" barrel does not cost you much velocity, but I don't know about the 22mag.
The other thing to keep in mind about the Stevens is that it does not have scope mounts but the Savage Mk II has weaver bases mounted, plus the accutrigger and it is also about $80 less than the 13 incher.

Oshawa Stevens 300F and 305F sales

Just a note for you around Oshawa or East Toronto, Gagnon Sports is bringing in 5 of each of the .22 mag and .22lr short barreled Stevens rifles. Similar pricing to what we`ve seen here on the board. Apparently all the short barreled rifles were all registered as .22 mag so Savage is getting the registration sorted out and there is a brief delay. They should ship in 10 to 14 days from the distributor so if you want one, contact Adam at Gagnon Sports at (905) 725-5798 to reserve yours. If you tell him ``Peter H.`` sent you I would appreciate it. They might throw in a box of ammo with mine for the referral ;)

Ours arrived today at 5. The website still says presale put they are in stock. I'll take some pics tomorrow.

I'd be really curious to know what kind of velocity would be lost on .22mag with a shorter barrel. Like the idea of this gun, but I don't take many shots closer than 75 yards..not sure it's the best candidate.

Stevens model 305F Carbine 22WMR....but read the tag .... optimal accuracy at 25 yds or less !!

Do you mean that they are not good for bears?:pirate:

No, he means they aren't good for anything. lol. If this rifle's accuracy potential in 22 WMR is limited to only 25 yds., I'd pass on it.

And the thought of charging you $80 more for less barrel length makes me shudder. It's not like you're getting a better quality barrel for the extra money.

Depends what you want. A small run of rifles is always going to yield a higher price per unit.
I fail to see how not having any kind of experience with a product makes one an expert at slandering it. At least wait for a couple of reports before shuddering too much.

I have not looked up the .22wmr data, but for a .22 LR standard velocity, there is not much change due to barrel shortening. From an old Guns + Ammo article quoted online:
14" = 1,105 fps
13" = 1,106
12" = 1,110
11" = 1,089
10" = 1,114
9" = 1,077
I doubt the 13" barrel would have a significant effect on accuracy but we will see, I have a 22LR version on the way. I don't try and shoot my .22s 200 yds, have other alternatives for that.

Pretty sure i read an old article that said optimal length for a .22 lr barrel was 16 inches anything longer and velocity drops off...

I handled one of those savage/stevens rifles the other day, I really liked them wouldn't buy it cause the price is quite high but for sure if you needed a compact rifle it would be the one to buy. A really nice feature is the stock is full sized.

That tag made me laugh... Pretty sure it's just cause of the sights that they say that.. To be fair though the gun is built for trappers and coon hunters so who really cares if it's no good past 25 yards..
