Ok, so I managed to pick up some Norma mfg. .308 Norma Mag ammo that I would like to sell... the problem is, I have no idea what a fair asking price would be.

I have 35 rounds of 180 grain with the yellow plastic tip, and 9 rounds of unknown grain (also Norma mfg) with exposed lead tip.

So, what would this stuff go for?

Thanks,
Ar180shooter

The 308 NM has been and is my favorite 30 cal magnum. To the best of my knowledge though, the bullet Norma used in their factory rounds for this caliber were the 180gr dual core. They 'may' well have produced loads using a 180gr bullet with a yellow plastic or ballistic tip but not that I'm aware of. They wouldn't be reloads would they??

I highly doubt it.

Firstly, they were from a consignment bid that a guy brought in to a store. He didn't reload, and was getting rid of all his guns and ammo. The 35 cartridges are listed on the side as Plastic Pointed "Dual Core", and the other 9 look to be sealed with some sort of green lacquer. Also, all of the primers have a small NP stamp on them. They're old too, probably 30 years, but they look to be in good condition, no corrosion.

Trying to remember what dad used to buy for this DL65 here. I remember the yellow tips, clear tips (??) and lead or silver tips.
I also recall the green coating around the primers as well as the bullet/case neck green.
You can figure $20-$25 for a box of once fired brass.
Try it out at $75 and see what your offers are.
Then there is the shipping that takes all the fun out of it.
Looky.

$75 per box or for the lot? Srry, not sure which you meant.

All, sorry.
I've seen this new at our Kamloops gun show for around $65 new per box on a blow out sale. I image now they would fetch close to a brown one with taxes in.
This is the reason I took to reloading. Just for this caliber.
And a great one it is if I may add.
Could be worth more, but most shooters of big calibers load their own to keep the $$ down.

Thanks for the clarificaiton. The only reason I asked is until your post, I've never seen or heard of the yellow tipped bullets being used in Norma factory loads. I checked out some of the old Norma reload and component info I have and didn't see mention of it there either.

A side issue;), when I first started big game hunting I had a 'Simpon-Sears' bubba'd 303Br and the price of shells for it was $3.50/20 I believe. Then, when I got my Parker Hale in 308NM, the price of shells for that was a whopping $8.10/20!!

With the exception of picking up the odd box at local gun shows I've always reloaded. As such, I don't really know what a fair price/box for your ammo would be but I would guess somewhere around the $70.oo/20. That's roughly what I paid/box for a 'sizeable' quantity of Norma factory 358 Norma Magnum. There's a gun show in Duncan tomorrow so I'll keep on the look-out for any and give you a shout concerning the price of it. Thanks again.

I'd say $80 for the lot. Hard to find Norma 308 NM ammo now days. I have some of the plastic tipped ammo from Norma in other calibers (including 9.3x62), they have offered it in other calibers I've seen as well. I just roll my own 308 NM, so factory stuff doesn't call me that much. - dan

Update

At the gun show in Duncan this morning, there was some similarly harder to get Norma factory ammo. 7x61 S&H Super and priced at $60.oo but I picked it up for $45.oo close to the end of the show. The gentleman I bought it from, a local dealer, also had three boxes of 308 NM, not manufactured by Norma but by an outfit 'New Custom Ammunition By Custom Reloading Service'. I purchased a box of 7x61 S&H by the same 'manufacturer' at a previous show. Light green box with a stylized red emblem. A n y w a y;), these three boxes were priced @ $60.00/box but could probably have been had for what I paid for the 7x61 S&H Super. Curious, I also asked if he'd ever seen Norma factory ammo, 308 NM or 7x61 S&H, ever loaded with a yellow plastic tipped bullet. Said he hadn't.

I've shot the yellow tip 308 nm rounds before, might have a few left too. I bought 3 boxes of NEW 308 NM off the shelf a couple years ago, 50% off price was $46/20. IMO, a guy might be enticed to buy this lot of 35 'older generation' ammo for $50 shipped. Cheers!
