Fought with them for two hours last night. Had to take a bit off the front of the upper handguard and also a bit off the left and right side to seat properly in the Norc retainer.

Had to take a lot of thickness off the front of the lower handguard and a little length as well. Was easy enough to do with a dremel with a lot of trial and error fitting, first the top and then the bottom.

I think its all fit, I just need a 3rd and 4th hand to get the lower handguard locked in the delta ring! Its maybe an 1/8" out from snapping in but won't budge!

Time to get the rubber mallet out? I mean SHEASH!

dude its a nork, did you think it was going to drop in like it would on a milspec gun?
The moe is hard enough on a in spec gun to install

Well I got her finished. I think the bottom handguard was rubbing the barrel nut which is why it wouldn't seat down. A bit more dremel + rubber mallet finished the job. Feels good with the AFG1.

I put I MIAD grip and a Magpul trigger guard in there today. Both required minor fitting as well.

A couple more Brownells orders should get me some backup irons and a CTR stock. Then she'll be done. I'm not going to go nuts with a Norinco.

Troy LOL. The MOE is a $25US handguard

Just spent an hour with dremel on mine last night and I almost have a fit with the MOE (Carbine length). Tonight I will hit the dremel again and see if I can get them in. Will be a tight fit.

My thumbs hurt.

Got mine on dremel plus sledgehammer.

The most frustrating thing about this installation effort is just how close it is without any trimming...

When I put each half of the MOE handguard on separately, they go on without a problem. But when I lock in the top first, then attempt the second, I can't get the nose (muzzle end) to connect into the hand guard cap at the front... I'm not sure if it is the top handguard that is taking up too much room (vertically) on the round cap, or if it is the diameter of the combined upper and lower halves that is the problem...

But so close! Anyone experience the same thing, or were they even more out of spec when serious dremelling was required? Since I don't have a dremel, I guess I'll have to try to muscle it for a little longer before I get some tools into it.

I just wish it was an obvious mis-fit issue. Then I wouldn't be wasting my time wrestling with it.

Before the Dremel was invented they used something called a file.
Seen pictures in books but never have seen one for real......:)

I wenrt with a Midwest FF Rail - no issues, cut ring assembly, bolt up rail assembly, now "I are all tactikool "

I got a NorcCQ and I now want to work on my handguard. I'm thinking about going with a MOE or something like a Midwest FF rail, or even a Troy quad rail.

Now I know it takes some shaving and some mallet work with the MOE guards, but as you mentioned how difficult was it to cut the delta ring assembly.

What do you mean when you said "bolt up rail assembly"? Was that difficult and what did it take.

Thanks

Cutting the delta ring is a 10 minute job if you're super careful - it's good to be super careful.

The rail assembly comes in parts, it's very straightforward to assemble the rail on the rifle, you just follow the instructions in the box (the instructions are actually very good) to make sure the top rail is dead centre, just use the carry handle - fix the back of the handle to the receiver and the front to the top rail.
