6.5-06 Hunting Rifle

I've already got a couple rifles in 6.5x55mm so a 6.5-06 doesn't do anything for me, really. :D

'cept make the bullets go faster, lol. - dan

I had one built by Bevan King several yrs ago. Good cartridge, but really doesn't offer much if anything over the 270W, except a bit of wildcat cool factor.

Yep...cool factor..better bullet selection....I think it has a slight edge in performance compared to the 270 but not enough for a Deer or Moose to know the difference. I havent' put my 270 for sale.....but Im not saying it wont' happen either :D

Umm yeah, a .256 Newton
It was his first in the line of cartridges that bear his name , after he developed the 22 hi power and 250 Savage cartridges, Old Charles did it years ago and it seems all thats old is new again, too bad the company failed around 1927 or 1928 and he died broke and discouraged.

Yes he was certainly ahead of him time...bad timing.

Actually the 256 is shorter the 6.5-06 thus has less case capacity, the 6.5-06 should be 2.484 while the newton is 2.450

Hopefully ready for spring I will have my 6.5-06 up and running. Due to the fact that there is still a couple feet of snow on the ground and it is snowing again I have more time to finish.

1 in 8" twist Gaillard heavy barrel, 25" OAL, on a Tikka T3 action mounted into a Robertson Composites Tac stock. 1 piece rail, with Vortex precision 30mm rings and a 4-16 Viper HS scope will finish it off.

I am really looking forward to trying it out. The overall rig is a bit larger than the sporter I initially envisioned but that can be the next build. 2 sons that want to hunt so never too many rifles in the house.

going for more load development with my Husky FN-Mauser (douglas barrel) this weekend. 130 gr. Berger VLD's are on the Menu. This one is a 9" twist and didnt' completly fall in love with 140gr. bullets (I only tested Interlock FB's).

The bergers shot really well in my other 6.5-06 (shilen 8" twist) curious to see what happens this time around.
