glock or smith wesson

I'd say if the Glock fits your hand than go with the Glock. Which generation is a whole other question. I've used both guns extensively and prefer the Glock. Easier to take down, has a longer barrel, lower bore axis and points well. Price wise they are both about the same. Parts goes to the Glock. Trigger feel I'd say are about the same. I really dislike the use of a tool to takedown the M&P.

The triggers on both are quite different....and what's hard about the takedown tool? Leave it in the pistol and stick a pen in to pop out the little lever.

Buy a .22 pistol/revolver first as indicated by others. If you're hellbent on buying centerfire then at least buy something that has a .22 conversion kit and shoot .22 before you learn bigger... It sounds stupid and yaddya yaddya yaddya but honestly, handgunning is nothing like rifle/shotgun and you'll feel like an idiot all over again when you fire 10 rounds and hit your paper once.

In my opinion, forget the 22........for now. You can get that later. You will get bored with it quick and wish you had bought a 9mm or a 40 cal.

I recomend a 9mm cause cheaper ammo but a 40 would be sweet also! :D

As for your question...I like the Smith grip but prefer a Glock overall. Both are awsome guns tho!! Good Luck!

I have and like both! I am a huge S&W fan but I have to admit the Glock is better for many reasons. Conversion kits, "safe action" trigger which is great for IPSC, and tonnes of aftermarket parts. I was a Glock hater for years, but there is a reason so many people like them... they work well!

+1 on getting a quality .22 to start. Cheap, low-recoil practice will help you master marksmanship fundamentals.

That said, if you want a .40, the M&P has the better track record of the two. Either the M&P or the 3rd Generation Glock are good in 9mm.

Ignore this. Many shooters start out on 9mm / 38 SPL and develop super bad habits. Starting on .22LR makes the transition to handgun shooting much easier, plus when you don't want to break the bank down the road, you have the conversion kit for .22LR.

I know dozens of people, myself included who ignored this, bought the 9mm luger or .45ACP and developed bad habits early on - which aren't easy to cure. This comes from a lot of experience.

Stance/posture, follow-through, trigger pull among a few... You'd be surprised. I've met quite a few guys/girls who 'claim' to shoot great... Show 'em a snap shot of 'em on the line and they go WHOA...

Any instructor will also tell you that it's best to start out with .22LR in a handgun before advancing. So, be the "I'm gonna buy something bigger because it's more powerful and I'm more of a man now!!" type of guy and get the 9mm / 45ACP or even something with more recoil, but if you don't have any real experience in shooting pistol/revolver, then you could be in for a world of hurt.

I have had many .22lr pistols both semis and revolvers, and though I can understand people recommending .22 to start I find it much different from shooting centrefire, and quite honestly I find it to be boring. I think a Sa/DA revolver and .38spcl is a good place to start as well, even a metal frame 9mm. I'm no expert by any means but I don't think those cartridges are too powerful to begin with
