I'd say if the Glock fits your hand than go with the Glock. Which generation is a whole other question. I've used both guns extensively and prefer the Glock. Easier to take down, has a longer barrel, lower bore axis and points well. Price wise they are both about the same. Parts goes to the Glock. Trigger feel I'd say are about the same. I really dislike the use of a tool to takedown the M&P.
The triggers on both are quite different....and what's hard about the takedown tool? Leave it in the pistol and stick a pen in to pop out the little lever.
