bought the mossy about two years ago now. has been problem free up to this point.

went trap shooting about two weeks ago and when i would fire and go to chamber the next round, the shell in the tube would eject out of the bottom and the spent shell out the side. this had only happened a couple of time and didnt think much of it.

now i went out shooting spoting clays today and this had happened everytime third or fourth time i would shoot. it would only fire the one in the chamber and when you would pump it to reload it would eject the full shell out the bottom and the spent one out the side.

check the gun out good when i got home and everything seems to be working fine. just wondering if anybody else has had this problem?

thanks
steve

The cartridge stop is out of time. It may need to be adjusted a little. Remember it's the stop not the interupter. That is a common ailment of Mossberg pumps but easily remedied. It is also possible that some debris is hindering the shell stop. A good take down and cleaning would be a start.

I too had this issue on my 535 On Saturday .. maybe a good take-apart and cleaning will help my problem too.

how do i go about adjusting the cartridge stop? the gun has been cleaned after every use always has been. ive flushed it out good with some cleaner and no major debris had come out. completly took it down nothing seemed out of place or damged.

The shell stop is the one that holds the shell in the magazine when the slide is forward and the bolt is in battery. The interupter is the one that stops the second shell from exiting the magazine when the slide is back in the process of chambering the first round from the mag. If you look closely when a shell is in the mag with the slide forward you will see how far the shell stop extends into the radius of the shell head. Depending on how far it extends you may need to bend it just a little to move it in more. Go slow. The part will have to be removed from the gun for the adjustment. It seems to be a combination of slide speed, cartridge position in relation to the shell stop and mag spring tension. This all contibutes to the malfunction. Luckily the adjustment will cure it 99% of the time. If not a new shell stop can be purchased (cheap) to replace the old one.

well took down the gun last night. re-adjust the interupter. it had a slight outward curve to it. it was only contacting the shell with half of the leg. shot about 50 rounds through it tonight. works great never once skipped a beat. thanks for all your help

For the people that have had this problem, how many rounds aprox. have u fired in ur 535.
I ask because I havent had a fail to feed/extract/eject and I fired about 1200-1500 rounds so far.

I have to beg to differ, I almost use mine exclusively for trap ( the only shotgun I own But hey it works) and also shooting slugs I reload. I dont find it much trouble at all for both. Iam still learning and keeping but a steady 18- 20/25 clays record since I bought it. Obviously the fit and a few other factors play in this but I dont think it isnt all that bad.

ive shot about 2000 rounds or so through it. mostly 2 3/4 trap loads but a fair deal of 3 1/2 steel for waterfowl some slug and some turkey. its the only shotgun i own so i have no other choice but to use it for trap. i would prefer to have a second just for trap but its not quite in the budget. i bought the mossy because i was told it was a decent all around gun for the price plus it came with the three barrels and four chokes. and up to this point ive never had an issue. a little re-adj and work after 1500 rounds or so is to be expected. they just dont make them like the used to.

i hAVE had mine for 5 opr 6 years now and still just love this shotgun mine is the 535 turkey that i lattergot a slug barrel for . i have shot the heck out of this think in all hunting weather never realy cleaned it but to wipe it down after getting wett . it has many turkeys deer ducks and bunnys , as well as lots of yotes . never missed a beat . for the money thy are hard to beat DUTCH

rifled slug barrel? I ask because I want to know if you can shoot rifled slugs through a rifled barrel? Sabots are just too expensive!

yep it comes with a rifled slug barrel and as per what ive been told is that you are just fine to shoot rifled slugs because the lead slug will conform to the barrel.

Challenger or rio star slugs work fine in both smooth bore and rifled barrels. Offhand my 535ats rifled barrel will keep them all touching at 50 yards and will do it at 100s if I use a rest. I shoot 2-2.5" groups offhand at 100 yards. These slugs are cheap and work very well.
