13'' .22 barrel pricing

I was checking a website offering .22's with 13'' barrels .The IDENTICAL regular length model was $80 LESS.WHY?

Part of the problem is our rediculous laws that make ''factory'' lengths legal whereas cutting a barrel yourself to the SAME length is ILLEGAL. If the issue is not wanting short barreled .22's on the street, then what diference does it make if it comes that way from the factory or not?Is the public somehow safer if it comes from the factory?

Since the maximum velocity is reached in a 16"barrel, any longer just decreases velocity,which is one reason why I like the shorter barrels.The only advantage to a longer barrrel is it is a bit quieter[and since silencers are illegal-that rational should translate into making longer-and quieter barrels illegal]

Makes no sense to me....
 
I acquired a .22 with a 16'' barrel, it was registered as having a 16'' barrel and no questions were asked if it came from the factory that way or was cut by a gunsmith

Lots of rimfires have 16" barrels because that is the minimum length for a rifle barrel in the U.S. So that's likely the reason why there were no questions about the barrel on that rimfire.
 
if the 13''barrel .22's were a special run for a limited market ,then I do understand some increased price is justifiable ,although $80 seems a bit steep.I think supply and demand is more likely the reason...and while I do like the shorter 16'' barrels,I'm not sure what real advantage a 13'' barrel has over a 16'' barrel other than novelty

Shorter and more compact. It makes the complete firearm around the same length as the stock.
 
I just got one of those in the mail. The barrel is stamped "Manufactured by Savage Arms (Canada) Inc." and also:
"Imported by Savage Arms Inc. Westfield MA." so it looks like they are planning to sell them in the US.

Not a chance. Savage isn't interested in building NFA firearms. I highly doubt any American consumer is going to pay a $200 stamp tax on a $150 dollar rifle. There's positively no sense in that.

Ahh...I can see you have an emotional interest in this as you own one of there rifles. Well, ask yourself this then. If there was a $200 tax on the purchase of your rifle becuase of its barrel length, would you have bought it? Would you pay extra to have this rifle delivered to you by way of courrier rather than regular mail?

To make a long story short, would this Stevens/Savage/Whateverthe####youwanttocallit be worth $500 or more, to you?
