Which 300 magnum

Nothing wrong with 300WSM, nor have I had any difficulty in reloading it. It's a touch more efficient than 300WM in terms of powder and velocity with bullet weights of 180 grain or less.

X3 with the suggested choice of BCP and Dogleg and for the reasoning behind that choice. However;), my personal favorite of the 30 cal Magnums is the 308 Norma Magnum:D.

My 308 Norma mag is a Schultz and Larson 65 DL also ;)

:)You have good taste:p. My favorite bolt action. There's three Schultz & Larsens I want and not too long ago I picked #2 of the three I'd like. A model 68DL in 7x61 S&H.

;)Two down, one to go:).

Epps had 2 of them for sale a couple years back at reasonable prices and I thought hard about picking one up but I passed. I probably shouldn't have, you don't see 7x61 S&H very often let alone in a S&L.

The difference in performance between the 300 magnums is pretty small, so I would go with the 300WM. Among the 300 magnums it's the most common, easiest to find ammo or brass for, and factory ammo is the cheapest.

I agree, recoil is manageable, get a normal weight rifle, load any TSX from 168 to 200 grains over a full case of any of ten different powders(my fav is re22) and hunt anything in North America.

Agreed. In my 308NM the choice will be one of the two weights I'm testing. The 168gr TTSX or the 180gr TTSX.

In my '06, it's starting to look like the 150gr TTSX. I've been working with that and the 130gr TTSX but the 150 'seems' to be doing a bit better, accuracy wise.

Go with 300WSM. Not sure where everyone looks for their ammo but in southern Ontario where you can't even hunt with a 300WSM you can find the ammo at CDN Tire, WalMart, TSC, and my small local gun shop and this is a town of 11,000. On average ammo is about 10% more than the 300WM which is not much. I bought some 300WSM Winchester Ballistic Silvertips for $32.00 at a large outdoor shop close to TO. Cheaper than the 30-06 was:).

dropped a moose at 400 yards like a sack of hammers with a weatherby 300 mag. Its a wonderful gun.

I did the same at the same distance with my Tikka M695 .300 win mag with cheap ol' Winchester grey box 180 gr pills. :)

The .300 Win Mag is the 30-06 of Magnums ;)

Ballistic tips are just about the worst possible bullet choice from a 300 magnum, turn a deer or moose shoulder into mince meat.

.300 H&H = if you want the Rolls-Royce of .30 magnums.
.300 RCM= if you want to buy into the short magnum fad.
.30-378 Weatherby Magnum= if you want the most power .30 magnum on the market.
.300 Winchester Magnum= if you want to buy the ammo in the store and do not want to reload.

Looking/thinking of longer range (than my current 308) for elk and moose which would be your flavour WSN WM Weatherby ect????
Or any other suggestions.

How much longer?

I only own a WSM, so I can't speak to the other options, but the WSM definitely performs. The 180 Gr Accubonds are a bit pricier than the 308, but as a hunting round, how many rounds are you going to be firing.

If you reload, a 200 Grain Barnes TSX @ 2900 FPS is going to take care of anything that you are interested in. On the lighter side for deer, the 130-150Gr bulelts would not be considered overkill either.
