Putting in an early request for goose hunting... (don't flame! please!)

So please don't flame me for this! I have enough aggression in my life already haha.

I asked last year, about finding some land/someone to take me out goose hunting for the first time last year, but it was too close to/already into the season.

So this year, I am asking WAY earlier.


*disclaimer: YES I know that the best way to get into it, is to go and knock on farmer's doors and simply ask, around this time of year, if I can use their land this fall to shoot some geese, and build a good relation with them. HOWEVER, I thought, seeing as we are a big and friendly community on CGN, that maybe someone could point me in the right direction or assist me! Thought I would ask here first!*

My request :
Is there anyone in the Ottawa area (preferably closer to Ottawa south - greely, that area) that would be willing to take a noob 24 year old out for a hunt this year. I have a decent shotgun, the correct ammo, although I think I need to pick up some march/field camo attire (My stuff's too dark meant for forests).

OR

Even more preferred, is there anyone who has some land/knows someone with some land that would allow me and maybe my father(he wants to sit and watch) try our hands at goose hunting this fall? If you would let me know who, I would be happy to go drive over and give them a visit (provided you maybe give them a heads up some young city slicker will be coming by sometime! I don't want to pi$$ anyone off!)

Let me know! If anyone can help that'd be awesome. If I shoot anything, you can have some, or beer or whatnot!

Bachelor of International Business with Minor in Spanish (Carleton Uni), studied in Spain for a year, I speak 4 languages. (plus some other stuff here and there).

Unfortunately, in Ottawa I can't find sh!t, even with the goddamn gov't. (All connections, and since there are little private firms here, its all federal crap).

Not to be a jerk, but wouldnt a minor in French have been more beneficial when trying to get a job with Canadian Gov't?

Anywho, I can not help you. However, if you register at oodmag.com, and post regularly showing you are a smart, dedicated outdoorsman, you may find someone who can. They have a much stronger hunting section then CGN, and are 99.9% Ontario residents. I know quite often their are some their looking to take out new hunters.
 
If you are serious about finding a job and about goose hunting, move to Saskatchewan. Lots of opportunity for both! We have a significant number of light manufacturing companies doing business internationally, and people with your international business skills are not numerous.
Goose hunting can be had here with almost no effort at all. You can knock on a door on Friday evening and be hunting on the owner's land Saturday at dawn.
 
I don't live out that way but I suggest you join OFAH and maybe contact Delta Waterfowl. They just might be the IN your looking for.

The thing is I do speak french. I speak English, French, Spanish, Polish. The minor in Spanish was because I was not allowed taking French since I already knew it (I WAS able to, but it would have made my courses very complicated).

Ontario Out of Doors mag huh? I'll give it a go!

Also, Saskatchewan huh? I will have to look into it, although Alberta seems to appeal to me more. Just the whole lack of mountains drives me nuts :D

The Goose hunting in Eastern Ontario is excellent, the only thing we lack is variety. Snow Geese are slowly moving west from Quebec so goose hunting is if anything getting better.

I have knocked on a barn door at 6 in the morning and been hunting at 6:30, Idon't mean to sound like a broken record but if the OP isn't going to get very far relying on other people. Door knocking is the only way to get permission.

I will second Delta Waterfowl though, good organisation to support.

The only problem is, I don't have ANY idea which doors to knock on! Ottawa is so tricky as to where you can shoot, and were you can't shoot. I am going to assume going south of Greely, and off the beaten path a bit (not close to Bank Street going south when it turns into a rural road, and so on, but rather off a while to the side) should be good, but again; I need to verify!

I think I may need to move to Alberta then! Ottawa has nothing to offer me! At all!

LMAO! I want the volvo for a V8 project (LS6 into a wagon. Hauls my bikes, and does it at 12.7 sec in the quarter...estimated in my head of course).

The banjo was just something I thought Id want for fun...although now that I think about it.....maybe I should remove that!

Look at the bottom of the page there are maps showing exactly where dischharge of firearms is legal. The City of Ottawa does not regulate hunting only the discharge of firearms, so if you can discharge and have permission you are clear for take off.

East Greely is locked up pretty much and the fields that aren't get hunted fairly heavily, in large part to a good friend of mine;).

Ok, see on that map, where Grey's Creek is? And you see Marcella drive?

That's where my friend lives, and I go deer hunting with him in the Area that's permitted for weapons discharge.

I would ideally like to hunt out of that area.

So your friend owns a bunch of land there? ..... and what kind of beer does your friend like, if I were to...say, persuade him to allow me to hunt there? :D

We door knock here also. Many people don't want the geese in their fields. Pick up all your shells and wads if you can when done and we always drop off a thank you card with a little present at the end of the season. That will go a long way. In fact one of our best deer hunting spots we have been dropping of a christmas grocery order complete with the turkey for over 2o years. We have grown so close with the lady there if we are not up on the weekends she is calling asking when we will be up next.

See, now that's just nice. I wish more people were like that in the world, rahter than "take take take" and give back a little.

Reminds me of a little anecdote....but I won't since it will stray off topic.

Anyway, I will have to door knock this summer as I drive around my fishing spots in the country! Maybe I will get lucky! :)

He doesn't own any land in the Ottawa area, he like myself has established connections with a few landowner. We have sort of become known as the " young lads that hunt here".

Asking this far ahead for geese is not the best use of your time. You need to scout them during the season, just picking a corn field won't cut it.
