I'm transferring the butt plate from my Norc poly to a USGI fiberglass stock. Do most people fill the upper screw hole and re-drill? Is there a longer screw available for the fiberglass stock? Thanks for any help with this.

on the real thing it's a nut , bolt and retainer- you can get around the retainer with a little loc-tite- and the bolt /nut is available at most hardware stores- i don't know the thread off the top of my head- the nut itself is a square, but you can sub in a hex, and use needle noses to hold it until it gets started

i use a 10x32 2 inch taper head machine screw and nut.
I use JB weld or marine fix fast epoxy putty.
apply light grease to the screw threads only
thread on the nut just at the end
insert nut end into the recess in the stock and tighten the screw till snug..... a small washer (to be removed after) can be fited to the screw at the taper end to help it stay straight when tightened during this process.
once tightened, ram premixed JB weld or epoxy putty into the area around the nut end until covered. place a small strip of saran wrap or any plastic sheeting over the work area and press it all smooth. this will peel right off once cured, leaving a finished modification with no sanding or shaping to clean up.

then remove the screw once it has all hardened. the grease will act as a mold release and the screw should back out easily with a screw driver.
voila, a permanent repair ;)

now, for those putting a chinese buttplate onto a g.i. stock..... you may have troubles opening the trap door as the mechanism on the chinese buttplate sticks out further than a g.i. buttplate. Under the hinge and lock of the trap door, I generally remove stock material with a dremel to clearance the hinge and lock so they can be utilized,

Since you are replacing both the nut and bolt it doesn't really matter what thread you use, just so long as they match. Fastenal sells square nuts Square Nuts at Fastenal so I'd think there must be a fastener company in Canada that also sells them.

PS Maybe this helps.

I have recently noticed that Fastenal will no longer sell individual parts. This means when I try to order 1 nut and 1 bolt they laugh at me.

Since I live in London, ON, I found Facca Fasteners who will still sell individual parts. I found a square nut, a length appropriate bolt and washer from them for about $1.

I then sanded the head and painted it very lightly with beuti-tone BBQ (or HIGH HEAT) matte black paint.

Call me a bubba, but it works and looked good to boot!
