Pics of my two shooter SKS's - parkerized and Arma-coated

I like the laminate sks. I expect to get one in the mail in the next couple of weeks. Hope it looks as good as yours.

X2, Westrifle's spring special was too good to pass on! Kurgan, The '54 is a beauty, the '52 just isnt working. A smooth sanded fiberglass stock would look alot better IMO, right now it looks like injection molded plastic with fake wood grain :puke: The olive drab is lighter than it should be too, but overall, nice SKS familia

Thanks. Yep, I wanted the black to resemble synthetic. I wanted a Tapco-ish look without the poor fitment and accuracy loss. The photos don't do it justice. I looks real bad a$$. The finish is so damn durable, I would have no problem dragging that sucker around a field. I actually ordered a chi-come fibreglass stock. I think its red in colour, when it arrives I will test it out. If I don't like it, I'll post it up on EE.

Satain has taken a liking to those stocks, with some bedding it should work out ok. At first glance I thought the '52 was silver, that would be an interesting look too

Just an FYI: both are completely parkerized and Arma-coated. One is Arma-coated in olive (army) green, the other is Arma-coated in matte black. One thing is for certain, the matte black finish is slightly less durable than the satin finish on the green one. Both finishes completely hide the original tooling marks, and give the metal bits a modern, new finish. It was worth every penny.

What kind of bread is a guy looking at to get this done? I picked up a '49 from Westrifle the other day. BEST one ever in terms of shooting, but the finish on the metal is painted and is cheeeeze! Kurgan, the matte black on yours looks great. I too stripped the crummy red shelac off and went to a blonde finish on mine. The matte finish would be the icing on the cake..

It all depends on what you want to get done. If you send Murdoc your SKS fully stripped, it will be cheaper. But in the end, you're looking at about $200. That includes full parkerizing and Arma-coating. The best thing about the final product is there's no worries about rust, with exception of ensuring your gas tube is rinsed out and barrel cleaned -- when using corrosive ammo. Murdoc is very thorough, and will even remove the rear sight leaf before spraying.

I suppose you can't reduce the value of an ugly BBQ painted '49 by getting it professionally refinished, but there are better looking 1951+ mild refurbs with chrome-lined barrels and laminate stocks that might be more ideal candidates for refinishing, leaving your '49 as "collectible".

After some rough play today, I am happy to report that the paint and Arma-coating is holding up perfectly... :)

I just got mine in the mail today from Murdoc, a refurbished 1954 Izhevsk that I got manganese parkerized and came out a nice dark grey. Going to take it out this weekend to see how well it shoots.
