I am planning to run some Canadian Tactical Carbine Association, canadiantacticalcarbine.com, matches and need to figure out what gear I should be getting in terms of tactical vest and holsters. I am looking for specific make and model and who sells them. As I don't see me needing to trust my life on this gear I am looking at reasonably priced gear. So a $200+ vest is not an option in fact I would like to get a vest, holster and mag pouches for less than the $200 mark.

Click on the links above to the various suppliers. Lots of cool stuff..and good quality.
If don't want to spend too much... check them all, but marstar has inexpensive gear...

Also, if rules permitt, there are a few fishing vests that actually have good size pockets that can hold Mags and some shells...for under $50... shop around.

I realize that I can check the links above. Because there is lots of cool stuff I was hoping someone could direct me to some specific, make and model, gear that would work good for this type of competition.

Never heard of it???

It's a new org that is trying to gain some traction. It started up last year and had one demo match here in Saskatoon. I think this year they are hoping to have a number of matches and hope that it spreads to other clubs. I looks and sounds like they trying to follow the IDPA metatlity of realistic defensive scenairos. I wasn't able to attend last years event but they are having the first one of the year at the end of the month.

I looked at the website.

Looks like they had a good turnout at the inaugural match.

Looking at the score sheets I see they are planning on some high round-count stages.

I would suggest that if someone is going to use IDPA scoring they have to be very aware of the length of the course of fire. The more targets you have the farther the scales tip towards a footrace rather than a shooting competition.

I ran into this issue when we put on multigun shoots in Terrace. While the long stages are really fun it defintely puts the less fleet-of-foot competitors at a significant disadvantage.

IDPA has put out a provisional rule set for 'Defensive' multigun (whatever that is :) ) that has tried to address this issue. The organisers may want to spend some time reading through these.

Anyhow, looks like fun.

according to their rule books, there are mutli-divisions. so which one you'll shoot in will make difference in gear you have to buy. so look into it further and look at all the links anyways, cause you'll see all what's available and pick what you want.. you're not in rush to get gear and shoot yesterday, right ? so do a little homework... for drop leg and vest, I believe, though maybe wrong, that marstar has cheapest stuff.

opsgear has nice stuff & good prices but shipping /brokerage fees etc. can be brutal. I got a range bag from them nice bag but almost doubled in price with shipping etc. this may have changed but that was my experience about 2 yrs. ago.

If your on a budget, what don,t you try this, buy one good bit of kit at a time and then you will have somthing that lasts and does what it needs to.
If your really tight for cash then i would spend it all on ammo and training and just go with your civie clothes, stuff the mags into your jacket pockets and jeans.
If your just playing around and dont want to train, just want to look badass then go buy some airsoft stuff.
