How strong are .410 shotguns?

i wasn't suggesting doing it, jut putting forth my experience. I think if my little backpacker survived a .44 mag, a 45lc would be lot safer..again, not reccomending, just providng some perspective.

410 slugs are a common deer round for women around here. Legality is sort of borderline but I've never heard of anybody being hassled by MNR over it yet.

Get a pump or lever gun, keep a birdshot round in the chamber and a slug right after it, if you bump into a deer, rack point and shoot. If you engage multiple grouse remember to rack twice before shooting a 2nd time though LOL

That's not true because the regs clearly say that for shotguns, nothing less then a 20gauge slug can be used, and for rifles nothing less then 243. No interpretation really required.

DEER = Rifles of a 6 mm (.243) calibre or greater: centre-fire cartridges
DEER = Shotguns 10, 12, 16 or 20-gauge shotguns. Cartridges: slugs or buckshots of 1 buck or SG (.30) calibre or greater

how you can misinterpret that is beyond me.

Covey I am not going to tell you again. Stay the hell out of my fields with your dam 410:p

Experience is not all that it is cracked up to be. I am glad that your experience was not serious injury. Often experience like yours leads to old wives tales. Next thing you know it will be common knowledge that a 45LC can be shot in a 410. The next guy's experience may not work out as well as yours did. Best is to read the barrel and if it does not say LC, don't chamber and shoot LC.

Yea...but sadly we can't go and hunt with the Taurus Judge in Canada:(

Who are you guys kidding, you don't hunt anyway! :) I get a kick out of all the, "Can't wait to hunt with my bullpup heated grip laser dazzled 14+1 pump action" guys, as I never see them in the field. And they're all from Winnipeg, Toronto, etc! The few pics of them with game you do see, it's a proud pose over a grizzled old doe or a scrawny bird. Couldn't hold it in any longer sorry.

One thing to remember: Deer are smart, birds arent. I just open the chamber enough I can pull the slug out with another coming up from the magazine, and put a bird shot in the chamber then close it. I'd much rather miss out on a bird then a deer trying to frig around (and possibly quietly) getting a bird shot out.

A very good technique when ground shooting fool hens

I get all teared up when I think we can not hunt with the judge! NOT!

The judge was designed for two things:
#1 personal defence. I am sad that defence of ones home and person seem to be frowned on in this country. The judge would be a fine choice for this purpose.

#2 The real reason judge was designed was to take money from the wanna crowd. The cool, drool, I gotta have one, I can hardly wait crowd. The I will settle for a Norchinko copy crowd.
Yep I am all teared up.

I use mine for Trap. Here come da Judge. :)

Rman and Covey Ridge... enough.

It's all OK USP. I have been mediating PM's between the two of them for hours. It all comes down to Cat vs Dog. My money is on Covey Ridge. He has one hell of a side kick.
